Automatic and power wires connections

Recommended Posts

I have a problem with the mechanics of building wires. Although they behave like normal construction errands and they need a dupe to be constructed, player can connect two wires that lay next to each other just by dragging one of them and thus making an intersection. And that's the problem: if you have compact settings, you can accidentely ruin your wires just by this "dupeless" construction. I know, that it makes sense in terms of one square one object rule (so there cannot be any building between two squares), and I'm really happy with the way you can just paint the wire layout without picking intersection pieces like individual "buildings", however I think there should be a tool, that allow player to undo this sort of connections; for now you need a dupe to do this for you by deconstructiong the problematic piece and rebuilding it as a single wire line.

Actually, I think it refers to gas and liquid pipes as well, but automatic wires tend to intersect much more often. Still, some type of ctrl+z in this situation could be nice. What do you think?

This applies to all transport systems (pipes, vents, wires).

A "disconnect" function would be very nice as it would remove the need to deconstruct/rebuild.

A dupe should perform the actual modifications (connecting and disconnecting) as an errant, that would make it more realistic and remove the issue with a draw error instantly connecting tiles that shouldn't be.

Yes, this important, otherwise it would be exploit like in rimworld where people used reconnect wire feature as instant way to turn on/off power line making actual switches obsolete.
