Lali-Lop
I found a volcano, but I have zero clue as to what I should use the magma and/or massive heat output for. I know they recently nixed oil and PW boiling, so those aren't options anymore. Only use I could think of would be to cool the magma for igneous rock to feed my hatches (even though I already have tons upon tons of the stuff.) I hear some people melt regolith? Why is that? tzionut
Is some filtration medium and it came from comets on the surface. nd you will have lots of tones of it. I posted a design for melting the regolith. is not perfect but it work. the challenge is to transport the regolith from the surface to the melting area whitout heat exchange. avc15
Should still be able to bake oil into petroleum, yes? If you use petroleum generation your water supply will increase drastically. (generator produces lots more pwater than the water you consume pumping oil from a well, especially if you're also using slicksters to recycle the CO2) It's less total power production than the NG would have been but hey, it's still a sustainable source of large amounts of power. Is there a (relatively simple) way to bake the oil into petroleum without overheating it to the point of evaporation? Especially considering I want to use all this magma? I would love a solution to my petroleum needs that is more efficient than the refinery, which requires manual operation. Sevio
The most effective design I've seen was by @The Flying Fox and is backpressure based. A constant flow of oil into a small refining chamber, sensors use the fact that oil can go up to 870 kg to detect when the chamber is too cold and add more heat. You also have to make sure to never add heat if the oil pipeline ever empties. 1 hour ago, Lali-Lop said: I hear some people melt regolith? Why is that? Regolith has a heat capacity of 0.2 whereas magma has a heat capacity of 1.0. So when you get regolith to melt into magma, the amount of heat energy it has increases, which you can use to easily preheat even more regolith to the brink of melting and the rest to drive one or more steam turbines. In my case, I have no volcano on my survival map so I wanted to make my own way to create igneous rock to feed to stone hatches. Given how large amounts of petroleum are going to be needed for launching rockets, I'm seriously considering adding an extra heat sink to the Meteor Magmaficator that I can use to refine oil... How ingenious! Thank you for sharing that! Link to comment https://forums.kleientertainment.com/forums/topic/94862-uses-for-magma/#findComment-1077803 Share on other sites
