I would like to suggest a device that allows one to change the destination of materials on a conveyor rail with a switch-building. How I imagine this would work is sort of a hybrid between how the filter works and how a shutoff valve works. This construct could have one input for solids and two outputs. There is also an input for automation, when the building recieves an "active" signal, the building will output goods on one rail, when it is "standby" it will output the goods to the other rail. This way you can easily automate where your resources go.

I encountered the use for this building while trying to automate the production of fertilizer and dirt. When no fertilizer is being made, obviously no dirt is needed either, meaning polluted dirt coming from the sieves does not need to be composted. That polluted dirt still needs to go somewhere so I would like to send it off to some other place where it can offgass so I can use the PO2 for something else. I tried various arrangements of conveyor loaders and automation but could not get the desired effect. I'm sure that this idea combined with smart storages and other sensors can make for some interesting builds where solids are handled automatically.

You can achieve the conveyor filter relatively easily even without mods - put one more sweeper at the splitting point and 2 loaders. You basically make a distribution center - materials A and B come to a receptacle, A goes to loader 1, B goes to loader 2 - done. The disadvantage is that you'll use additional power for each packet of A or B in order to sort them(sweeper + loaders/receptacle).
