Carnis
Planning to make a gold volcano based Coal to Carbon kiln. Problem is, for each 250g gold am expecting to use 500g coal as coolant, which would mean I get about 2.5kg steel per 250g gold. Every1 knows lime bottleneck will mean my kiln will almost never run, thus I cant get my gold. Are there other mats to use, that benefit from heat? Don't mention petroleum, that I don't want, or natural gas .. That I Will make from volcano or iron volcano. Have 4 volcanos + 2 water geysers on current seed.. random seed, very lucky. We don't want to burn fertiliser anymore.. So I'm sort of short on ideas. The kiln would use Aze's magma dropper dropping gold on weight plates on one side, then on the other side is the coolant and a sweeper + loader. Loader is set to receive the refined material, and new coal is dropped with a sweeper eggdropper.. So we can measure temperature by calculating how long it takes for stuff to refine. When this timer goes too slow, we unload the gold and drop new liquid gold. I don't want to waste the heat so refined carbon is obvious, but will need other materials too. I have no idea what you mean.... but algae/dirt/polluted dirt all turn into sand, which can be refined into glass. dno if that helps you at all. I think the idea is convert coal into refined carbon using heat. Ok some usefull heat based conversions: - oil -> petroleum - plastic -> naptha - petroleum/naptha -> natural gas - algae/slime/dirt/polluted dirt -> sand - sand -> glass - obsidian/granite/regolith/malefic rock -> magma(igneous rock) - wolframite/abyssalite -> tungsten (- clay -> ceramic Not really usefull because you loose 50% mass, even if you create your coal by feeding clay your only loose 33% mass using the killn) Link to comment https://forums.kleientertainment.com/forums/topic/93329-list-of-heat-refineable-materials-besides-carbon-and-metals/#findComment-1061929 Share on other sites
Carnis
Hmm would need to be fairly low temp too, otherwise it wont cool the gold.. glass would otherwise be useful. erso
Depends on how hot the heat source is. FoolsGold (Pyrite), Electrum, GoldAmalgam and Cuprite (Copper Ore) need around 1350K to melt and results Gold and Copper IronOre needs 1808K to melt Link to comment https://forums.kleientertainment.com/forums/topic/93329-list-of-heat-refineable-materials-besides-carbon-and-metals/#findComment-1062305 Share on other sites
Carnis
Its a fail concept. Every solid forms a tile when it transforms. Maybe this will Be changed later, but for now kiln is optimal for making ceramic & carbon. Decided to just burn the heat and get dirt + clean water by boiling. Kabrute
not true, only solids forming above a certain quantity limit form full tiles, drop 200g drops of water in ice biome watch it turn to chunks not tiles. Drip magma onto oil it will make chunks. Its about the amount of material you are transforming. When you heat up 1kg dirt you get 1kg sand-TILE. Liquids, ok. Solids, fail. Sand comes from Solis dirt so IT becomes tile. Solids/liquids work difference. I Will test <100g packets but that would Be unfeasable in a game. I Will test that too, but so far every solid has become tile. Its nonsensical. Neotuck had a clever way to force those tiles out of The boiler with full tiles & conveyors. But as a concept its silly and an oversight imo. Vectrobe
If you need a reliable source of gold from it, I'd just use the steam turbine as a heatsink. If you at least get the metal into a solid state (eg; run wolf gas pipes with a suitable gas source, or loop), you can keep the volcano in a vacuum with a auto-sweeper, taking the metal down logistics lines into wherever heat is needed. So you could use this to heat up coal first, then dump excess under the aforementioned steam turbine, of which will consume the heat with an adequate loop of some sort. The certain-mats-turning-into-tiles issue, dunno. I personally just opt to manually kiln materials in the lower carbon space, as to keep the temperature up so my slicksters don't die from cold... Carnis
Gold volcano produces about The same heat as an aquatuner under 10% strain. The heat capacity of gold is laughable. I would not Be able to run a Steam genny on that. I can boil some grams of pW tjough. Nps. Vectrobe
True, though the main objective here is to remove unneeded heat for more gold out, which the turbine does a good job of bringing the temperature down to safer levels, even if you get no power out... But of course, heat can also be dumped directly to space now via a waste material of some sort (eg polluted oxygen), so pick your poison really. Or just boil pW, The condensing Steam has 2J less heat capacity / gram. This system can delete megawatts of heat.
