Argelle
Cycle 582 outskirts of "La Fabrique de L'Histoire", french dupe's colony. First time in our history, we reach the "surface". Oxygen is running out, temperature's unbarable, and loud noises scare us. We notice, through the holes, the dark blue sky for the first time. Holy Printing Pod! Gases escape faster than Lifegrow the exploit threads. We rush to patch the leaks, first with granit, then with abyssalite, as our leader jean-Pierre spots that abyssalite natural frontier seems oblivious to destruction. Cycle 587 briefing room, inner quartier of "La Fabrique de L'Histoire" Our scientists present a glum report on the next possibilities. Yes they say, we know theoriticcally how to build steel, space doors but we have been lazy enjoying berries and life so no infrastructure is ready. Due to the "cycle 300 regulation" (second french law in place after the first: "strike right" if food is below expectations, circa cycle 02) plastic is limited to a few byproduct from our dreckos, petroleum is banned (pending the invention of nuclear power). Engenieers are doubtfull as to prevent the whole top of our colony to be nibbled, bits by bits. Cycle 586, colony "La Fabrique de L'Histoire" The end is near.. unless.. ..unless the constant comunication we established a long time ago with F.O.R.U.M. (Fantastic Organization Responding Unbelievably Myquestions) will help another time and provide link or advice ? Someone outthere will know how to fight the end with low technology ? Bless be the F.O.R.U.M. Link to comment https://forums.kleientertainment.com/forums/topic/93194-the-beginner-guide-to-the-galaxy/ Share on other sites
Sevio
That AETN looks damaged, did meteors do that? I wonder if they can actually be destroyed... As far as fighting the meteor apocalypse goes: You can use that room with the security doors (those tiles are indestructible) as your safe way to the surface. Since you don't have access to steel, you'll have to sacrifice other materials to keep the meteors at bay. With dupes in exosuits, build a 2 thick wall of igneous rock on top of the surface (disable repairs), then a 2 high walkway for maintenance, then another 2 thick wall of igneous rock. Maybe repeat that a few more times if you want more protection. Argelle
No damage to the AETN @Sevio , that was water flooding it. I've begun the set up for exosuit, and tested abyssalite (it gets destroyed ) so I will go for your two-fick layer igneous rock. No more game draging along, this menace is quite a nice addition to spice up of the gameplay So, I was beeing theatrical in the OP, but it is really an apocalypse, the base can and will be destroyed by the top !?! Thanks for sharing tips, @Sevio Now where is this very good post "from egg shells to steel in less than 20 cycles" i saw the other day ? Prince Mandor
If you have eggshells, then you are fine. Quickly build kiln and stone smasher. Get some coal and convert it into carbon (if you have no coal, just put feeder near hatches, and feed them). Smash eggshells to lime. If you can visit space, you can just find refined iron there. That's all, you can smelt some steel in refinery. Most limited resource is eggshells, if you do not have them, there are no way to get them quickly. Mostly meteorites bring enough rigolite to keep system in equilibrium - they destroy some cells, they create some cells, this process eternal. BUT! It is random. Dozen of metalical meteorites in a row, (without rigolite) and they can create deep hole Link to comment https://forums.kleientertainment.com/forums/topic/93194-the-beginner-guide-to-the-galaxy/#findComment-1060419 Share on other sites
Argelle
Thanks @Prince Mandor I shall be fine then, eggshells were collectedd quite early (a colony of gastromes must have omelettes), coal is proficient (tons) and access to space is open. So, if it's an equilibrium, is the meteor shower animation misleading, as I could swear I saw trails through the walls (not hiting only on surface). As you can see on the last image, for a column of 3 abysalite tiles, only the bottom down was damaged. Or is it than meteors arrived slightly sideway? or, maybe construction started at botton, meteor hit, and dupes finish constructing the top two tiles? Prince Mandor
Yes, animation is just animation. Meteorites harm not only points they strike, but all nearby tiles also. This is important, if you make steel roof, remember leave empty row below it. Because meteorites harm also cells below striked, and bunker tile will not be harmed, but cell below it will be. And if you make just small hat over stairs, remember to make it one tile wider in both directions Also, if you like to dig some area automatically, build oil well there. Well cannot be build in such place, but dupes dig place before build Link to comment https://forums.kleientertainment.com/forums/topic/93194-the-beginner-guide-to-the-galaxy/#findComment-1060433 Share on other sites
PhailRaptor
I have noticed that meteors do move very very slightly to the left or right as they fall. So it's entirely possible that only the bottom tile was hit by a falling rock. Also worth noting that Ruins wall Tiles are like Bunker Tiles. They are themselves immune to damage, but a meteor will go straight through Ruins Tiles. Argelle
@Prince Mandor i do not get the "make small hat over stairs" ? Nor the link with oil well (there are at the opposite of the asteroid, no?). Smuch
Amusing but from contex I'm goin to take a guess that they typoed and meant a small /hatch/ over the stairs. As, of the oil well. thing, what they mean, I think (I could be wrong) is that if you want your duplicants to dig automticaly a big potion of ground, order an oil well to be built in the place you want to be digged. Your dupes will dig the space automaticaly so if would fit (as they would for any object) but since there is no oil, they won't actualy build the well. (But they digged the squares which is what you wanted) Link to comment https://forums.kleientertainment.com/forums/topic/93194-the-beginner-guide-to-the-galaxy/#findComment-1060709 Share on other sites
Argelle
Oooh, I see, nice trick ! Coming back on AETN on @Sevio's question, there is now damage to it, because of .. heat.
