When a dupe gets to the point of having to gasp for air they also drop the items they are holding, and stop doing tasks.

Them you should play it like a sand box.

You could use logic gates to build up a simple computer.

You could keep producing dupes, like building up a relatively big society which has 100 dupes. When things go bigger, it is unpredictable what could happen.

And of course, this game is still in early access, I believe something funny would occur in later release.
