I'm just trying to understand why this continues to happen? I've never lost a save before this update, and my saves have vanished twice now. I'm using steam, and I would just like to know how to stop this from happening. This is a truly joy sucking problem, and I can't help but be super rustled over it. :grumpy:

Maybe it depends on where you have steam installed. I have it on a separate hard disc along with other games...

Seperate harddisk.. hmm yes, that might be it. I have it on the same harddisk as the system, but the games and steam have another partition.

I have steam on a plug-in harddrive, yes. Another reason MIGHT be disabling and enabling steamcloud a bunch of times. There are people who experience problems with steamcloud in general, not only in relation to DS and I'm not sure if that issue was ever explained. Personally I disable steamcloud because it slows down the shutdown of steam too much for me.

Oh, you keep it on an EXTERNAL harddrive? I don't think the registry will like that.

It works fine tbh, never had a probelm with it. mind you, I never tried switching on steam with the external drive unplugged, that would be an unfun idea... (though I bet it just woudln't see the games installed on the harddrive)

If i learned anything about Steam, it's that Steam is pretty fragile when it comes to things disappearing.

that I can confirm, at least as far as saved games or configuration files go. also I have to erase my profile file from Borderlands 2 every time I start the game or it crashes *cough*

don't know if this helps but i play another game that uses the steam cloud (X3 terran conflict dead is dead) which had the same problem of saves being lost/not working. the workaround they found over there isAfter you quit the game, make sure to Quit from the Steam layout/app in order to force a Cloud Sync.i don't have much hope of this being fixed as steam still say the problem is at egosofts (the people that make X3) end
