I cut the quoted post (written below) in half because I only want to include the important bit, which is the ability to choose any task and apply a priority to it with just one keyboard press before you slap it down in your game.

So this is kind of specific....but I would LOVE not to have assign priorities EVERY time I issue a different command by scrolling to the bottom left or right to find the very small number. I believe it would be SO much quicker (and hopefully easily coded) to have, say, the num lock keypad be the numbers for assigning priority. 

 

This could work for everything! Like if you hit dig button, and the dig is very important, you would hit the dig button then follow it up with NUM9, and it would automatically start painting dig, but priority 9. 

I believe the regular priority painting tool could work very well this way as well! Like now, I hit "p" then have to click individual levels before painting. But I believe it could be- hit "p", then hit "NUM8" and anything I paint would upgrade in priority to 9.

 

Currently if you choose to dig, then you choose the dig command, which defaults to the last choice you had previously chosen.  But it will then give you an option (in the right hand corner), wheryou can choose the priority of the command you've just chosen.

 

The change I'm suggesting is so small.  It's basically the same system we have now, except you can use the standard numbers or the numpad instead of using your mouse for a small part of the action.  Instead of clicking the button, you use the NUM1-9 keys the same way as the mouse click! If you don't click, then it defaults to your last choice (as standard) and you would always still have the option of using the mouse.

 

Pressing:

G + 8 + Dig at priority 8

 

Now I've typed it out, i'm wondering.  How easy is it to mod ONI?  I've done a few basic mods on games before and as long as they welcome modders I reckon I could make this quite easily.  It seems so simple  (In theory!!)

 

This would be so beneficial though, I can't even begin to remember the number of times I've used my mouse and been annoyed that there was not a better system.

So I posted a reply to my own thread and it combined them, so I'm adding this for clarity!::

 

There's another thing, you may regard it as basically the same as what I wrote above.

But after pressing P, when you press a number key then you get that priority level selected in your paste tool.

 

P + 3 = Pushing Priority 3 with whatever you select

I have been wanting the same thing for some time, the number keys are much better used this way then bringing up overlays.

I totally agree with the above! 

I can't remember anymore exactly but I think back in thermal update when I started playing this mechanic (g+num, s+num...) was implemented and got patched away. Even today I catch myself sometimes doing it because I've learned so at the start. Or am I wrong here?
