I had an Idea for cooling

Recommended Posts

I decided to do something weird

I used hot steam to cool hydrogen down, I think it was cool.

Funny thing is, it worked pretty well

I think I made this as a way of rebelling against the "hydrogen is best for cooling mindset". Not saying it isn't, but I'm saying it is not the only option for effective cooling.

Just now, Neotuck said:

won't work for long, eventually the steam will condense and stop the nullifier from working

That would depend on thermal input from the ThermoRegulators, would it not?  The AETN will "consume" heat at a fixed rate.  As long as the heat displaced by the ThermoRegulators is, on average, equal to or greater than that rate it shouldn't be an issue.

What is the benefit of using steam over hydrogen?

Hydrogen has an reliable state (pipes wont break) and no(t many) other uses. It also exists as hydrogen in the environment.

Steam is not as easy to come by. You need to take care of its temperature and there might be better things to do with it than using it as cooling medium.

I mean, I chose it because it's specific heat capacity is about double hydrogen, and because I could put it in a state I could interact with it with machinery. I made it mostly because I thought it was funny that I could cool something using scalding hot steam.
