Gas flow, supports game mechanic? Visuals disconnected, from calculations?

Recommended Posts

I am a bit confused, about the visuals of gas movement.
I hope you can see on the picture, hydrogen gas is moving similar in both "systems".
One is supporting pump direction and one is against it. Both systems are identical, from wiring(small diff) / material / size.
They give exact same results. That "feels" a bit strange for me.gas_move.thumb.gif.f6b4d3cb08091da1183c52b634f5865f.gif
Should the flow of the gas not change with pump direction?
Why is it not building up different in both systems? Should there be not a difference in a corner (mirror of objects)?
That "feels" so wrong for me.
I changed the flow to one tile, to force overpressure.
The visual gasflow is the same, when on the right chamberpart is overpressure of 8.5 Kg..
But the both systems are still identical (pressure in both pumpchambers for example)..

Even when there is clear overpressure on the other end, gasflow (visual) stays same, result in both systems similar.

I tried to support visual gasflow, no chance, completely unlogical. Look here, where are the highest hydroconcentrations are and the pumps run dry (vacuum)

The last pic is interesting. 2 pumps pump faster than hydrogen can establish equilibrium since it prefers top and/or right.

The wall at the high pressure spot goes up and left so I think the system gets confused it took the highest spot to the right...or the rightest spot at a height? Whatever:D

And the first observation. Yes you're right. It should flow the other direction, visually, but I think it's not that bad since it creates same results as you said so it's just a rendering issue (as it's always been) :D

Gasflow in oni is more like hydroflow, but then it's not. It's more like waves in mediums with different density, but then it's not. Schroedinger would have been proud! Or not? :D

I don't now why, but that "discovery" reduced my fun massive, i have with ONI. That looks/feels so strange and wrong, even when i mix other gas into, to support "balancing" between the gasses. Really bad/sad thing. Very unlogical behavior. I have no problem playing older games, with bad gfx, when gameplay is nice. In ONI the visuals are great for me and watching gas moving, playing with them around, was very relaxing.
Was specially that thing of "gas move mechanics" changed with an update and i missed it, or was it ninja again?
Only my fifty cent and i don't know, if someone other then me could understand that, but that "hurts" my thinkprocess, when i watch/see it.
I try to fix it then, even reconstruct fine working buildings, to get the flow visually right.
Not really fun for me.

Perhaps they haven't worked out the visual mechanics yet.  I've always figured that currently the atmosphere animations were mostly to let you know that something was there.

Could be, but why is the hydro moving/concentrating at the marked lower positions (when i forget about the visuals part)?

Find a pool of water that is completely enclosed. Turn on turbo speed and watch the movement.  The mass never changes -- its an animation to show you that its liquid, not that something is flowing.  I figured the air animation stuff was the same sort of deal and had nothing to do with the actual movements of the gas.  Just my observations. *shrug*

Ofcourse it would always be better if the animations represented the real movement but we can't do anythinh but wait. There is a certain computing power buged - the number of computing power a game can demand, so we can not know if we can afford to include that animation (which requires some computing power) before we know how much will a finished game consume(same train of thought goes for gas movement mechanic). IMO.

How about hydrogen in a room with wheezewort?

Is this normal?

Hydrogen pulled to top left corner, not evenly spread.

Each Wheezewort is a pump. It takes 1kg of gas from bottom to top with each breath. So, it is normal to have higher concentration in top row. And there are some little drift of light gases to left side. Now it is very light, but over time it became noticeable
