Kabrute
Before we begin, this tutorial is meant to assist with anyone struggling to get started and established. Its(I'm) not good enough to play Fate/Mis though. Getting Started Spoiler Choosing the right starting dupes is crucial on harder difficulty curves, less so on standard mode. Here we just need to avoid shooting ourselves in the foot, so, no mouth-breathers or bottomless pits and I tend to avoid flatulents and destructives Gossman is a fill in, first a mouthbreather then a destructive. Who you are willing to take really depends on how you want to play the game. Many people opt to get the "best" starting line up since you can shuffle them away till you get the group you want. for anyone who wants to play along. Cycle by Cycle Cycle 1) Getting started/tips and tricks Spoiler Click ok now press the spacebar. Take a moment and breathe. Look around and start planning, your dupes don't think so you'r gonna have to be the brains for a squad. A fairly standard starting area, if not a bit short on food options. First things first are bathrooms. Alt+S will open up Screen Shot mode. Everything is a button. (Ok, not everything, but just about, seriously click everywhere) Dig orders left and right serves 2 purposes, exploration and creation need room and materials to build. Its important to make certain areas rooms for the bonus they give. Bathrooms, as a room, reduce stress for a cycle and a half. Doors and solid tiles make the border for rooms. not all bonus are "worthwhile" though, the bedroom bonus is extra stamina recovery..... this early on just avoiding sore backs will be enough of a bonus, their stamina will be full before morning anyway. Nothing is permanent, except Neutronium, so temporary accommodations are fine. This concludes our first cycle. Cycle 2) Spoiler the first thing everyone does is wake up and run to the bathroom, as soon as they finish they start trying to clean it so we need to press F9 or click the germ in the upper right and adjust the slider on up to 50k+ or uncheck the box for now. As long as they wash up regularly germs shouldn't be an issue. Next we wanna go ahead and finish up that research station to start unlocking the rest of the game. Especially early on watch out for this kind of nonsense He JUST got off the toilet. Once you have a research station built and powered the research tree opens up. Start with Advanced research so that you can build a job board and super computer, then research basic farming. Then you can build mealwood farms. These will turn dirt into fruit that your dupes can process into basic survival food. Then research interior decor so you can build sustainable bristle farms.(Sustainable in the sense that water is a renewable resource) Cycle 3) Expand slowly(first newcomer) Spoiler Following through on the advice given above. If you can stay ahead of the "problems" they never really appear..... As food depletes dig up muckroot. its not good but its filling. The spaces beneath the bathroom will be the first gardens. Its important that we control our food supply, to maximize the benefits from it. For now I recommend this just to get started. Cycle 4) On Jobs Spoiler There are many approaches to the job system, no matter your approach, this early, we can't afford to feed any but the lowest tier anyway, so miners/gofers/builders all around. But first! for generic base running I use this arrangement. As long as survival is assured all else will be done in its own due time. Now this garden is prepared for first, mealwood then bristle berries, as promised. 5 watt floor lamps in the center of each garden will light up the berries when its time. Cycle 5) a little kitchen nook and we finish up the farms Spoiler Link to comment https://forums.kleientertainment.com/forums/topic/89105-getting-started/ Share on other sites
Kabrute
Cycle 6) Another new friend Spoiler Its important to put in these bypass catches on tall ladders to prevent losing items in fluids or pits. digging in a pattern like this has a similar effect, use the surroundings to our advantage. even though gardens are built and growing we don't have a steady supply of liceloaf yet so its not quite time to promote a researcher so for now lets finish up all the starting researches while we get the finishing touches put on our new base. We still aren't in a position to handle someone who needs too much but between the two on the right, max will be more valuable to us over the next 20 cycles Cycle 7) Foods running short but keep moving forward Spoiler If you get truly desperate for food, digging up buried objects can yield muckroot or hatch, both of which are edible.... We will be harvesting meal-lice soon, its time Max has the least time in gofer and the greatest over all stats. Cycle 8) Rooms and the first harvests, just in time Spoiler Getting the garden ready for a greenhouse. To utilize room bonuses press F11 to pull up the overlay. Hovering over a "room" tells us about it while on the right we see the types of rooms, hovering over these will show you what you need to make the room that type of room. We can see here, the only thing we are missing is a farm-station. Once research catches up this room will be ready for a farmer to tend. Cycle 9) Tightening our belts Spoiler I know that warning bells keep going off but if you can push through them... now that we have harvested it, we can transplant it to the gardens. Using free time to "scout" around the base. How can we bring in people if we are about to starve to death?! because we are growing more than enough, its just a bit of a tight squeeze here at the beginning is all. Cycle 10) Spoiler Remember when I said everything is a button? Even the food icons.... give em a click but make sure you don't let dupes eat too poor or too good a food to soon. Generally speaking the best is reserved for the most needful (high stress reduction for eating above your tier) Cycle 11) Medbay and Decor Spoiler The statue isn't required but I like to have a little something for decor in my recovery rooms. Cycle 12) The upswing (When Bristles Bloom) Spoiler If we wanted to swap our cook or researcher out now would be a good time Link to comment https://forums.kleientertainment.com/forums/topic/89105-getting-started/#findComment-1019991 Share on other sites
Kabrute
Cycle 13) Spoiler as your dupes master their jobs, shuffle them around to keep them growing, their requirements are based on highest job not total jobs so the more the better We could install a farm station but we don't have the Farmer needed to run it, we also don't appear to need the extra food now. Cycle 15) Controlling Air pressure Spoiler CO2 buildup can be a problem, for now we will just store it in and under the gardens. a new friend, yay! Cycle 16) Balancing power Spoiler Farms weren't staying lit through the night every night, this will fix that for now. My priority arrangement Fully filled the garden with CO2, nothing will rot in here now. Cycle 17) Avoid slime Spoiler Don't touch the germy stuff! Ambaire
Very nice. Two things of note: I like how you put the adv research right next to the water, and even though compactors 'work' when suspended midair, the red icons trigger my ocd or something.
