  1. A few tips I've amassed on my limited experience in hamlet with everyone's favorite scallywag. -pick exotic flowers when low on sanity, as they are renewable in the jungle -Try to rush palace city, as it also contains the Tam O Shanter -use spyglass to clear out the map Anything else you guys might wanna add? I thought about starting in SW and rushing skyworthy to bring lucky hats and coffee over to hamlet
  2. Early on you want to put some nsulation around your base so it won`t heat up from the nearby biomes. Most people use igneous rock for it`s high thermal capacity, but in fact using sandstone is better. Why is that? Your walls will have the temperature of the rock used to build it (it`s not always true but in the early biomes it is). This means your insulated walls will be pretty hot when build out of igneous rock. It`s usual temperature is above 40oC. The main reason you want igneous is that it takes time to heat up so it will keep the temperature outside for longer. But when the temperature outside is the same as the wall the thermal capacity does nothing, instead it slowly leaks the heat inside and the capacity will make it leak more heat overall if you try to cool down the area. Sandstone in your starting biome is around 25oC giving you more time without heat leaking in even though it heats up faster. It will actually suck some heat from the inside as well if it`s around 30oC. Later of course you should change it to a more robust insulation using ceramic or an active cooling system but early on sandstone should be much better than igneous for keeping your farms nice and cool.
  3. So I want to get into using Blender but I have no idea how to start. Any tips or tricks? Should I start small/simple or try to create a character model right off the bat? And how does rigging and animation even work with this program? I once used a couple creators for MMD but I never got far with that for multiple reasons (one being lack of parts and knowledge to create my own persona).
  4. Been a while since I made one of these. Here are pack of tips I gathered/discovered here and there. Hope you enjoy.
  5. I am no professional at this game(longest survived is 400 cycles, but I often restart to see if I can do better), but these are the tips I frequently use & found useful, so thought it would help other folks who only recently started this game. Hope you enjoy, and those who are more experienced, please gift me with your wisdom.
  6. Now this thread is not meant to call anyone out, nor is it about venting your frustrations over mistakes noobs make. These are tips aimed more at showing ways of being considerate than improving your skill at the game. I don't have a lot of time for playing computer games, so when I play DST I tend to hop on a random server and help out all I can before I have to leave (sometimes hosting my own server if I can't find one, which tends to be lonely), and I thought it would be nice to share ways I've found of not being a liability and not getting on peoples bad sides. I'd like to see other peoples tips too, in case there's some I've missed or just haven't thought of. So here's mine :3 Don't ask where the Base is Right After Joining: This one's simple, but it goes a long way in not annoying people. Now I know that when you first enter a server you want to know where you can come to at night to cook and spam the /dance emote, but be patient. If you aren't given directions or offered an escort, explore, gather some things, get your bearings. People will respect you more if you survive a few days before asking where the base is located. Who knows, you may even find it on your own! Don't Pick Everything: When first entering one of the many randomly generated islands, our brains tend to immediately slip into PICK ALL THE THINGS mode, especially those of us who've spent a fair amount of time in the single player game. However, when playing in multipayer, one has to stop and think, "Hey, if I systematically pick every bit of flint, grass, twigs, and food from around the portal in a ten mile radius, then there won't be anything left for new players!" Please, be considerate. How can you expect new players to survive a few days if they can't even scrounge up enough for a torch? Drop some Flint by the Portal: It's a small thing that'll help out people just entering the server. You don't even have to go out of the way to do it; if you happen to be pasing by the portal and have some flint to spare, just drop some by it, or make a pickaxe to leave behind so they can collect their own. Heck, I've heard of people making a chest by the portal containing equipment like torches, rabbit earmuffs, and pickaxes to help new players out. Don't Enter in Winter or Summer: Pay attention to the day and season of the server you're joining. If you want to join in a difficult season for some extra challenge, go ahead. Just don't expect everyone to drop what they're doing to help you out. If you don't want Strangers, set a Password: You'd think this one would be a no brainer, but I've heard a lot of stories of people joining servers just to be kicked the moment they enter. I assume it only happens when someone doesn't know that they can make a password for they're server, but still, it's rude. Drop your Stuff Before you Leave: Before you leave a server, it's nice to drop your items on the ground so others can use them. If you're playing with familiar people on a server you know you'll be on again, you can keep your equipment. In any case it's still rude to leave with gears, a big stack of silk, or any other important items still in your inventory, selfishly taking them out of reach of the unfortunate players left on the server. Keep Busy: Look around the base. Does it still need some drying racks? A crockpot? Some farms? Do the traps need to be emptyed? Are you low on wood? Look around for things that need to be done, and if you're having trouble finding something, it never hurts to ask. No one likes a leach. I hope you enjoyed reading through my wall of text and I didn't waste your time. Feel free to post helpful tips of your own, and you might help a few people become a little more helpful. Maybe. If you want a tldr just read the bold text.
  7. This topic was created to help new players and allow veterans to argue, discuss and share their tips, tricks and strategies with different characters. This topic will be a place for new and veteran players alike to learn things they did not. You can argue and discuss here BUT do not put in misleading information (Example Willow teaches players to fear insanity). Arguments should NEVER include swearing, boasting or any bad info. Players are encouraged to do research on certain subjects before stating a fact in case the game updates or the fact is false. NEVER end a discussion/argument without both parties agreeing to confirm the fact is correct (Example Lanterns VS Miner Hats). Either one party is correct or the debate continues. Please think about the player base before stating your fact. An idea might only work for veterans or certain characters. If so, please state the requirement in BOLD LETTERS. Players should ask questions and answer them without any arrogance/cockiness. Answering an obvious question with "Duh stupid" or "What a noob" is unneeded.

  9. Hello world! JamesBucket here with something quite different. I know DST is basically DS RoG multiplayer, but there are some unique features I found, so I put them together. Hope you find them useful, and CHEERS!
  10. What's the best way to accumulate a food surplus in DST? I've been playing on a server with some friends, and we tried several strategies that rapidly depleted: 6 farms of dragonfruit near a frog field -supposedly after I left the server that day winter hit, and two out of 4 people who originally set up the base barely made it through winter. 2 beeboxes and about 8 berry bushes -beeboxes took too long to set up, due to difficulties getting silk. -berrybushes...aren't that useful, we had more, but they were unfertilized. Koalefant hunting-with someone constantly hunting koalefants, we got a fairly decent rate of meat coming in...that soon stopped because the hunter left. most of the meat was converted to jerky. Any ideas? Tips? Strategies for food rationing?
  11. I've never really spent much time refining my base and prettying it up before, so today I made a server specifically for the purpose of building an awesome base. I picked Wickerbottom so I could get an early start and spent the first few days exploring, eventually settling on a spot between a bunch of frog ponds and a savanna with plenty of rabbits and beefalo. However, now that I've picked the spot I find myself kind of overwhelmed. I was just wondering if anyone had good tips for a cool looking, functional base. Even just posting some screen shots for inspiration would be great. Thanks in advance!

Progress One video under Youtube Uploading/Processing. Needs editing. Features : Length : 31 Minutes Content : Tips Use of Annotations to travel through video. Use of Closed Captioning. Small mistakes. Author Commentary on the first 4 Days. Video Description on Youtube : Day 1 to 4. Summary : Collecting Resources.Wondering if my world is composed of islands.Finding a huge Mosaic Biome.Mining Rocks in Rockyland and Setting a Base.Exploring the Mosaic Biome and Acquiring the Resources for Rain Hat.Finding a Sinkhole.Crafting my Rain Hat. Notes : I have made a few mistakes during the gathering of resources. I didn't pick enough grass at the game start. How to survive Spring : Hammer any skeleton you find for bone shards. Hammer Pig Houses and Touch Stones for Pig Skin in order to create an Umbrella. Building a large stack of grass and twigs is essential in order to farm spiders with traps. Destroy Spider Hives Tier 3 to get spider eggs. Plant the eggs near your base. A Crockpot with a Birdcage will give you a steady amount of food. You can transform monster meat into eggs. Eggs are used in Bacon and Eggs Recipe. It is recommended to create meaty stew when you have large meat (value of 1). A lantern will make exploration easy. Keep in mind that you will have to use Roasted Berries or Fist Full of Jam unless you have farms while being in caves. It will save encounters with Bunnymen and it can save you time. You can hammer Bunny Hutch to rebuild them in the above world near your base. Pigs and Bunnymen will provide a full protection against hounds. You should try getting gears by fighting ClockWork Monsters. A flingomatic is almost required if you want to survive summer. If you come across a desert, you should build a large stack of cactus flowers, hound's tooth and bone shards. Inventory Management is the most important aspect in Don't Starve. Keep a third of your inventory empty. Leave things on road when you don't need them. Travel with only one hat or with a football helmet only to save space. Use cones to plant trees and burn them once they become evergreens to get charcoal. Never gather too many tools. You can burn turf if you don't want to gather wood. I like to gather rocks personally to set up Fire Pits when I am travelling. I can always re-use them later. Fire Pits will help you to survive long nights when it's raining. Commentaries If there's not enough content to make a good judgement, you can wait a few days until the next video will uploaded to Youtube. I don't have a regular schedule. I believe that using all the Youtube features will make it on par with the other videos. I will not talk. Once I have enough content, you may place a judgement on the Playlist (content, author, execution, processing, editing, relevance, polishing).

  24. Maxwell

what if Maxwell is Wilson's father or uncle or some important male father-figure type role, and he either hates Wilson (because he did something bad, for which he is now being punished) or surviving is some right of passage for the alchemist. that would be a twist... lol any other good theories/ideas?
