ImpalerWrG
New Station concept, it is operated by a scientist (maybe Tenured being required). The Seismograph has a cartoon microphone dish which can be aimed in 8 directions (4 orthogonal + 4 diagonal) on it's control screen, the direction is thus visible to the player without opening the building. Multiple directions can be selected too and the building will just cycle between them. Over time as the scientist works the station the map will be gradually revealed in a 45 degree cone in the desired direction. Each unit of work completed at the station reveals the next closest tiles so scanning through an already revealed area is not wasted, rather the peripheral blackness is always revealed. Any form of geyser/volcano etc revealed by the station will generate an alert, but the geyser still needs the new on-site tenured scientist research. blash365
Excellent idea. Another way of scouting the environment and another occupation for scientists. Unfortunately it is no longer needed in ultra-late-game. ImpalerWrG
Yes the long term scientist obsolescence problem isn't eliminated by this, but it is pushed back a bit as the player has another thing to dump science labor in rather then just blasting through the tech tree discovering things you can't even build yet. blash365
Maybe alchemy might be a long-term solution for scientists? Make gold out of lead. A small "hadron collider" (or whatever device is applicable) to lift/lower elements in the period table. ImpalerWrG
Very nice idea blash, I think that deserves a thread too. Particularly if we ever get any kind of nuclear energy or radiation system in the game it would be a natural pairing with the scientist and high energy elemental transmutations would make use of nuclear fuels. goboking
The last time I played (Wednesday) I had this exact thought - sans the details - after spending a lot of time blindly digging about in search of geysers.
