(updated and improved) 2 in 1 solution for boiling water and cooling your base

Recommended Posts

An updated and more effective version of my 2 inb 1 solution for cooling and boiling polluted water in Oxygen Not Included.

I also explain a lot more regarding how it works and the details of how the heat is deleted in the machinery

That seems like a really, really neat way of collecting and reusing waste heat.  But...  it didn't seem like it created very much clean H2O.  Wouldn't an adaptation of @Saturnus's Distiller be more effective?

I guess it depends what you're trying to do with it?

For just boiling water any type of liquid tepidizer setup will beat aquatuners by far. The idea here is rather the cooling and the cleaning of polluted water is a useful by product. Since polluted water also is a valuable resource it might for some setups be more valuable to minimize the amount of polluted water keeping this thing running. The main idea here is to show a not so exploit heavy way of cooling without the use of Nullifiers or weezworts (a very minor part of the cooling comes from exploits and is an unintentional by product and not a requirement)

My old distiller design is specifically designed to minimize heat deletion everywhere it is possible. It uses no exploits at all.

Maybe (probably due to my english) my comment came out wrong, I mean exploits for cooling like in the borg-cube cooling, and not regarding your distiller, Because the distiller as faar as I could understand reading the comments in that old post was not for cooling at all but rather to be a very efficient way of cleaning pw.,  It does use a tepidizer for boiling? I tried to read through the link about, there was a lot of information about minimizing heat deletion and how to avoid it. I probably got to the wrong threat to start with because I only could find a lot of discussion about how heat deletion could be avoided but not about how the pw was heated in the first place... But the picture I found in the end seemed to use tepidezer for boiling, and that will, at least I think always be more efficient in pretty much any setup than aqua-tuners if the aim is simply to boil pw...

It uses a tepidizer to preheat the water, the boiling is done with an aquatuner. The reason is that you want to use the aquatuner cooling to help condense the steam, and cool the output and heat the input water to a reasonable level but you want to preheat the PW as much as possible with the tepidizer as it's much more efficient. The balance between how much the PW is preheated in the supercharger is also what automatically stabilizes it. The supercharger tepidizer preheater has an efficiency bell curve. If the preheater does too much the input water gets too hot and the tepidizer goes in shutdown lowering the temperature. If the input water temperature is to low the throughput is reduced which lowers the aquatuner cooling so the input water temperature increases. It's basically fail safe.

Note tepidizer and aquatuner function have changed a bit so I can't be sure it still works like it used to but that's what debug is for. Testing.

! This is exactly what I've been working on!

It's still very much in alpha, and pretty ugly in its current form, but here's a preview:

It's a modified version of @Saturnus's build, so it has a 10kg/s boil rate, but it's designed for cooling AND cleaning. If you don't feed it polluted water, then it will re-pollute its own condensed steam; the net cooling is delivered in the form of the outputs of two of the aquatuners (the third is internal to the system, for steam condensing). However, providing any amount of PH2O will displace the (clean) water being re-polluted and cause it to leave the system.

Of course, it takes a full 4 kW to run right now...
