Pufts producing Slimelung now?

Recommended Posts

So, I'm slightly confused by an observation I've made today and yesterday.

Using debug, I removed all the germs from a small Slime biome.  It happened to have a Puft in it, sucking on the P-O2.  Somehow, even after I've painted over the whole area many, many times now to remove all germs, Slimelung keeps coming back.

It seems that somehow, the Puft is producing Slime that has Slimelung in it, even when neither the Puft nor the P-O2 have any Slimelung germs on or in them.

This wouldn't bother me if Pufts were marked as a Germ source, like how Outhouses, Lavatories, and Morbs are.  But the aren't.

You forgot that puft could have already had slimelung on slime it had inside him - like 100g of slime it didnt excrete yet with slimelung on it - so you deleted germs on the outside, but not on inside... try deleting germs when puft is empty.

Pufts were meant to be a source of Slimelung anyway were they not?

You really want me to test and prove my point?

I had thought of that.  I tried to test it, not sure how exact I was.  I waited until the moment after it popped out some Slime, then teleported it into the nearby heat biome in a pocket of Chlorine.  While it was there, I checked it's details.  It showed that it contained "0 kg" of P-O2 (which suggests rounding...), but reported zero Slimelung germs in it.  I then selected the P-O2 itself inside the Puft, it still showed zero Slimelung.

I waited until all the Slime in the original chamber had offgased, then erased the germs again, multiple times.  I checked all over the chamber, and nowhere showed any Slimelung.  So I teleported the Puft back in.  2ish cycles later, there was Slimelung again.

I can't speak to the Dev's intention, but if that was the case, would they not be identified on the Germ Overlay as a Source for Slimelung, just like Morbs are?  In the same manner that Outhouses and Lavatories are for Food Poisoning?

no fixed amount of slime - only excrete when above 1200 g(i suppose), germ count i same as mass in gramms

oh, i actually know whee it comes from - its a copy-paste bug:

piece of code, supposed to be:

 excrete.mass = content_item.mass
 excrete.germs = content_item.germs
actually is:
 excrete.mass = content_item.mass
 excrete.germs = content_item.mass

this has already been tested with freshly spawned pufts and PO

Yes, pufts do create slimelung-infested slime. It's not new, I think it's been this way since the Outbreak update. If you let them drop that slime into liquid, you can even keep them in 100% germ free polluted oxygen since the slime won't manage to produce any polluted oxygen before it lands. I had such puft farm last update.

As long as you don't let that slime outgas (keeping it under liquid or in walls), you can safely fertilize mushrooms with it without creating any infection danger. Too bad mushrooms are not the endgame food source anymore, maintaining a puft farm was fun.
