THE GOOD TRAIT:
Let her combine percent based tools/weapons/armor of the same type to restore their durability or let her tape work on them at 1/3rd of its effectiveness as it is when used on a timed clothing item. She's supposed to be handy and this is handy. Now onto the main course; her desperately needed negative trait.

THE BAD TRAIT:
Winona has been bashed for her being a better Wilson. She's got bonuses but no weaknesses to balance those out. That negative trait should be............ disbelief in magic. She can craft staves, amulets, magic devices but can't use them. Trying to use a staff just makes her shrug and mumble about how it's just a rock on a stick, similar to trying to eat a vegetable as Wigfrid. Using a dark sword drains no sanity but does no damage or durability loss and makes her complain about how it don't make sense or she doesn't like playing pretend.

This is perfectly in line with her character which is a hard headed factory worker. She's good at what she does and been around the way. Probably not open to the idea of magic. Magic shmagick all I need is my tools. After these changes she'll be both wanted as a late game teammate and respected by experienced players as there's a drawback to using her.

So she shouldn't be able to use the dark sword, life giving amulet, star callers, ice staff, lazy deserter (it is magic too), lazy explorer?

And for that she could repair tools, weapons and armor... in my opinion this is a minor advantage compared to the proposed cons. I think these suggestions wouldn't change much on Winona's current state: good for beginners and early game, but only occasionally useful late game, where a good team has practically everything in masses. And why would one care to (wait for Winona to) repair a log suit if they can just make a new one? The only exceptions were maybe thulecite crowns and suits, but repairing these without any thulecite would be extremely overpowered. This would make thulecite practically renewable without having to kill Dragonfly or even going to the ruins.

So I think that this way she would be either still less useful or very op, depending on what she could repair.

Balancing issues needing ironed out for sure. Probably still able to haunt life giving amulets as a ghost. Amulets (life giving, chilling, nightmare etc) would have no effect when worn, just Winona remarking how it doesn't feel any different. As for the lazy deserter it would just be a cane for her. I should clarify, by magic items I don't mean everything in the magic/ancient tab is off limits to Winona. Items like the one man band or thulecite club/suit would still work. I don't think it'd be terribly overpowered if she could repair thulecite gear at 5% per tick. You have to sit down and do the task, it's not like you can save your armor in the middle of a scenario where you're caught unprepared and it's going to break from being pummeled. And as you said, if your team is killing the dragonfly they can create more thulecite as it is via green gems. Something Winona would not be able to do as tradeoff.

Still, without the magic she maybe does need things to supplement her. Perhaps some unique item combinations like log suit with thermostone stuck in the back. Or the ability to make her own hammer which is also a formidable weapon, it does say she brings her own tools. Things that are 'handy' so to speak.

All that aside you cannot deny the synergy of a toughgirl handyman character having a disbelief in magic, being very much sure of her tools and mechanical know-how instead. As far as a downside quirk to the character that stays in theme I think this is the way they should look at taking her. And she does need one make no mistake. As she is now she's outmoding Wilson.

The staff you mean is the lazy explorer. The lazy deserter is a structure with which you can teleport to another player channeling another lazy deserter.

The suggestions you made look quite ok, but idk, I still don't really like them... but that's most likely just because I'm still quite pleased with Winona's current perks.
