Duplicant Has Near-Permanent 100% Stress

Recommended Posts

I loaded into my game today (occupational beta testing) and one of my dupes are going berserk nonstop. Absolutely nothing will stop it other than me just outright killing/deleting the dupe. Is the stress change per cycle supposed to be +300% from food? I'm giving them +1 quality instead of +2 expected, but I didn't expect the response to be this severe.

Feed him better quality food, at least 1 higher than the expectation. It is a 300% reduction in stress for every point higher than the expectation. So if a dupe has a food expectation of -1 then you feed him a quality 5 food (Pepper Bread or Barbeque), expect a stress reduction of 1800% while the dupe's eating.

Meanwhile, if you feed him food that has a quality lower than the expectation, it is a 150% increase in stress per point difference. So if a dupe has an expectation of 2 and you gave meal lice (-1 quality), then stress rises by 450%.

An additional note: Berry Sludge is reasonably easy to produce and has only sustainable ingredients (water, berries, wheat). The quality is +3 so you can feed your highest trained dupes with it, without them suffering from a stress increase. In addition to that it doesn't spoil.

It's a bug that happens when the game fails to take away "eating" status. You can tell by the fact that the dupe will be stuck at 4000 kcal (with constant +30k kcal/cycle modifier) and will randomly emote about bad/good food. I once had it happen to a dupe eating stuffed berries, which resulted in 0% stress dupe who didn't need to eat.

As mentioned above, save+load works.

It seems to happen more often when the game is lagging hard and you're playing at full speed. I didn't see it happen at medium speed.
