Hunger/Bathroom urge timing adjustment.

Recommended Posts

Can hunger and the urge to go to the bathroom have the change in desired task occur at the instant their current task ENDS, not the instant they desire to do it, up until a minute or so?  It really REALLY sucks with the current system and the now nerfed dupe speeds when your dupe decides they want to go to the bathroom and drops everything they are holding (including all that food) into a deep pit so that they can go wee.  Either that, or just to not end their current task, and keep holding whatever they were holding as they go to the restroom or grab a bite to eat.   This is by far one of the most frustrating things when you see a dupe randomly decide to drop everything to do something you know they could have delayed at least 30 more seconds.

I would actually go about this the other way.  I think when they're at 100% bladder they should, in fact, drop everything and do their thing, but I think that between jobs they shouldn't be waiting until the last second to go.  I don't wait until I'm 30 seconds from pissing myself before I think "Oh, I should probably catch up with John, it's been a while."

I think at 80-90% they should "queue" using the bathroom, and do so as soon as they're done their current task.

Oh no, I know, they actually can hold it for a while after is all.   I just also know that unless I held it for several hours, I probably can pick and choose the time I actually DO go though...

Perhaps let the Diarrhea debuff keep the "panic drop everything" aspect of the rushing to the bathroom.   Every other case the dupe should far more than be able to plan around "I'll need to go soon, lets not start anything I can't finish before then."

I think the current threshold where they drop everything and go to the toilet should be split into two - beyond first threshold, they'd go to the toilet first thing after they finish the current task. And only second, higher threshold would work like the current one, making them interrupt whatever they are doing.

The same could be applied to eating, breathing, even sleeping. I think it could seriously reduce amount of stuff dropped all around the base.

I can see instances where building something might cause them to wet themselves, they would need to abandon the job in that case. Either way, it would be nice for them to determine which would be more efficient, use the bathroom first or take a 100 tile walk to a random task and then decide it's time to go back, etc.

I've been imagining all the dupes have urinary urgency syndrome (this is a medical condition where you have no "I need to go soon" warning, and only get the "oh crap, I'm gonna wet my pants!") and have to literally run to closest toilet every time. I do agree that having them drop things down a ladder into my sewage tank or be 99 percent done with a job and run away is really annoying. I've got into the habit of putting bathrooms all over my colony to help with the pee time, but if you want to use the Mess Hall buff you can't scatter eating places all over. I do like the challenge it presents when deciding how far to work. The exosuits are really great for that, with the +20 bladder capacity.

And now I do believe I have a new record in dupe stupidity relating to this problem.

I have a dupe taking food to the ration box.  He gets hungry.  He is over a pit where the food will be unrecoverable.

What does he do?  Drops the food he is CARRYING to go get food. /ffs.

My cook starved after he prepared a meal but then dropped it because he had to take a pee. He died in the bathroom of hunger.

You have to choose what's better - let duplicants soil themselves while eating, or let them starve to death while taking a pee. I actually think it's better the way it is because if he starved to death, he was on the verge of dying anyway. Soiling the mess hall would be happening all the time.
