Kabrute
I didn't like it. I'm starting to get used to it. Its insanely more difficult now and even just starting a game is rough, no doubt, that being said i've just about got it figured out. I don't play with debug and I didn't carry over an old save. I started a Standard Game in the preview build. Might just manage to get this colony off the ground. I have figured out the control system behind my workers and now everything is flowing smoothly though my cook does go build stuff sometimes XD and I get other oddities crop up I haven't strictly limited them yet as its still the beginning of the game. This is my 2nd try at a colony as the first one starved eating dirt cuz I didn't know the plants were re-arranged Start with the bathroom, its vital to get one going on cycle 1. Cycle 2 bedroom and bathroom, then research. Cycle 3 - 5 digging and finishing bedrooms, bathrooms, and starting garden area while researching Battery->Adv Res-> Basic Farming ->Artistic Expressions Once you have basic farming start setting out planters and popping up mealwood off to the side and bristles around your Printing pod. Rush gardens, 2 mealwood per dupe with loafing and atleast 1 bristle per dupe asap. Need 3 bristle per dupe to just live off berries. Since I started using jobs by this time I also built ... Without the pictures, just the clean space and 1 empty plant pot and debris on the floor it was pulling -75 stress/cycle. Now its -115 Get a musher installed and make sure you disable Consumable Meal Lice so your dupes don't eat raw ingredients. Now that I have everything needed for a self sustained bathroom with o2 overflow its time to lay the foundation Bathroom across the bottom, distiller to the right, 1 electro with 2 pumps above, a gas filter to prime the mechanical filter with hydrogen(so its temporary) once done this should be self sustaining, just gonna need to add in 1 atmo sensor in electro room to keep the pumps over 400 grams pressure in the room (in case h2o not consistent enough) There is a bug with buildings that if the plumbing isn't done first it registers wonky when connecting them, seems bridges and valves work regardless of the error flags they throw though If you do get hit with this bug, reloading or rebuilding the buildings fix the problem No point in doing the airflow tiles though, I was hoping I could shine a light on one or two plants below, no luck. Up above though each and every plant is receiving constant illumination from the printing pod. This is also the max I was able to fit. . As you can see from my food, this is just enough plants to stay ahead of my dupes. Its far enough ahead that I've got room for 1 more dupe. Minimum setting 1g/s I had a microgram filter fail on me so those are no longer reliable, I am running this filter at 5g/s to guarantee I don't loose a seal, I added extra bridges to compensate. Pipe bridge feeds the bathroom first, then once full feeds excess to electrolizer With the powered filter and batteries now depleting the gene couldn't keep up. By dropping the filter its now self sufficient. (Produces an extra 83w/s average without the filter With the filter each packet was costing power and that overburdened the gene) Atmo sensor set to 400 grams. This setup and 2 algae burners are covering their air needs, this is enough to allow me to recruit a few more dupes without hooking up the geysers just yet. Well, that and Morbs so, LST turn off Tidy to prevent unexpected bathroom cleanups . Morbs in quantity now definitely produce slimelung. Supplementing with outside water, the outlines show the pipe path amongst the bridges there. This setup uses distiller water first but supplements with the external feed. Base is stuffed with O2 now, and research is nearly done. Now for the long term garden. Notice that every plant will be recieving light at its base, this is where the plant checks its illumination status. :::If you widen the light spacing by 1 you will get 2 extra hydroponic tiles in per light. TheOlz
@Kabrute I'd certainly appreciate it! I've managed to get my colony running, up to around cycle 50 now with not too many issues, and I was thinking of restarting and recording a bit of a tutorial. But, if I'm gonna do that, I'd like to be more confident in what I'm doing. Getting 1 colony running alright doesn't mean it'll work next time! Seeing a good example of how others are handling things will certainly help with that! (I wouldn't make a video tutorial until this is out of beta phase anyway, but getting the plan and pattern down is the focus right now) Oh, and if you are taking language suggestions, maybe try Egyptian Coptic, I mean, if you're gonna go old you might as well go OLD right?! midjones
I've restarted a 2nd colony and so far have this: The core foundation for a successful base is here, started the hydroponics and got a scalable base set up with good toilets, oxygen generation, and enough food. Now just need to start systems for collecting clean water, and adding more base cooling. Also start mushrooms and sleet wheat farming. Would love to also start conveyor belt system but that's going to take another 130 cycles to level up. QuQuasar
I'm only 20 cycles in so far, but I figured I'd share my findings specifically because I'm playing on fatalistic/miserable. 1. Every Dupe has 0 Immunity. This means that on miserable, nobody restores any immunity points they lose. Right from the start you're in a death spiral towards a food poisoning epidemic until you can get an apothecary and access to balm lily's. 2. Washbasins on high priority! Dupes can't be trusted to deliver things on their own anymore, and every germ that gets out is a step towards vomity doom. 3. Food. I always prioritize food, specifically bristle berries (I like to get one berry crop in before they stop growing) as a matter of course, so the changes didn't cause me any grief here. The only real difference is the need to cook now. 4. Stress. Actually not nearly as much of a problem as I was expecting it to be: my dupes are spending a fraction of the time they used to on the massage table. I think they might have actually made stress slightly easier to deal with. 5. Manual Generators also on high priority. Dupes don't automatically prioritize the hamster wheels anymore, which has been seriously slowing down my early game research. In hindsight I should have made space for more batteries. 6. Vertical exploratory mining is exceedingly slow. Previously, my miners could be trusted to deliver, mine, and construct ladders. Now, I have to wait for my gofer to deliver, my miner to dig out the granite, and my architect to build for every single ladder tile. I may need to adjust my strategy somewhat. 7. There's a deconstruction bug. See that unoccupied, foundation-less cot to the left of the portal? That's been a high priority deconstruction task for several cycles, and through saving/loading the game, and they still won't do it. Might need to play around in debug mode to work out what's going on there. Kabrute
I straight plumbed my garden and half my plants never got water. Rebuilt some choice unions with bridge/bypass setups and it works perfectly. Outline shows path of pipe. I also have 8 morbs, the output on their chamber has been a constant 56kg / cycle. but the pdirt skews those numbers. After some finagling and against my own expectations this was what was required to add a second pump but keep the original as the primary pump. The pump in the center of the picture is the primary feed, I expected that bridged in source would be secondary but it became primary so I swapped the bridge around and viola. Crazy enough this is opposite the setup I have on my distiller but that system also works exactly as I want it too so um.... ok then. Kabrute
15 dupes and I still only need 5 toilets and 3 sinks to keep the dupes germ free. That bathroom is supporting the entire colony..... TheOlz
Just a note on bathrooms... Am I the only one that keeps outhouses and basins for well over 100 cycles? I see screenies of 20 or so cycles with lavatories and sinks Sometimes I don't use proper bathrooms until I'm ready to upgrade the whole base with plastic and refined metal items (beds, ladders, tiles, etc) Link to comment https://forums.kleientertainment.com/forums/topic/86828-preview-build-starter-guide/#findComment-996806 Share on other sites
Kabrute
I rushed these bathrooms for the free air supply, though to be honest it doesn't keep up with the demand of even a single electrolizer, and this is 15 dupes. I imagine if I was milking them it would be different. For me the only reason to keep outhouses going is for morb farming. Hechicera
I keep the outhouses and sinks for a while. My way of adjusting has been less forcing a fast upgrade, and more working with what is there in the building and farming. There is more of an opportunity cost in rearranging now, so I put some of that off. However, it does make my bases more spread out than some of the super tight screen shots. Not by much, but that puts my choices as hit harder by the need for speed/athletics. Though I'm working on that with layout designs too. So I'm not sure it is better, but I am breaking turn 100 fairly well. I am also staying with lower dupe numbers, and going job swapping more. The dupe won't be great if it is off-interest, but it only has to be competent long enough. And early game that is a low bar. I keep notes what dupes have a couple of points in skills I may want, but they don't have an interest in. Since no dupes are great anymore, the job system lets me take a fair dupe and with a little practice, get an adequate dupe for early work out of it. The one combo I now look for is one high Creativity, with or without Art interest. I can manage with slower research, but the dupes want their decor and they want it NOW. Made a noticeable difference in stress ramp up. Kabrute
15 Dupes more or less settled into their roles, 2+ athletics for tidy/supply outside jobs My new personal debate is setting up micro bases or just making the entire asteroid my base station Link to comment https://forums.kleientertainment.com/forums/topic/86828-preview-build-starter-guide/#findComment-997041 Share on other sites
