Amerz
Hello everyone! I bought O2NI since the alpha but lost touch with it since sustaining a base is not doable. With the recent updates, I decided to play it again but then discovered a major problem. Germs! Specially on water, so I decided to look it up on how to effectively recycle waters but couldn't find comprehensive guide, just suggestions and the like. With that said, Here is my water treatment design I came up with from various suggestions. The main ideas here is to have separate container with different purposes. 1. Polluted Water(With Germs) container - Stores water from latrine and polluted water outside the base 2. Polluted Water(Without Germs) container - Waters from here can go directly to Clean Water(Without Germs) container after going thru Water Sieve 3. Clean Water(Without Germs) container - Contains usable safe water. 4.Clean Water(With Germs) container - Get rid of germs from from water, I suggest making it smaller for faster heating. (Luckily I generated a map with Natural Gas Geyser near, I found steam geyser at the top right) Sorry for pipe layout, I didn't plan it carefully, and just kept adding pipe every time I expand the base. Since Automation Update came up, I decided to use it. but 2 Water Sieves can be used instead. When Liquid Pump(A) activates, Liquid Shutoff 1 and 3 close and 2 open leading to Clean Water(without germs) This is my first post, and any feedback and suggestion is welcomed. Thank you for reading! Moggles
I used to store and contain stuff separately but recently I've taken to just keeping germ water contained in pipework or machines. Have you considered using up the germ water directly from their sources? If you have a steam geyser pumping and have a balanced water supply it's no problem to destroy the waste in manufacturing. The metal refinery can store up to 800kg of polluted water with the benefit of giving you a chunk of refined metal every now and then. The excess and eventually the used coolant is fed to thimble reed plants so I get a slow steady supply of reed fiber for making exosuits and snazzy suits. I currently prefer this way of dealing with it because germy polluted water is destroyed slowly in the manufacturing process without ever risking exposing the clean water or air. The refinery gets auto disinfected to clean off food poisoning occasionally. My stress and immunity are a bit wonky because this is a fatalistic play through and the slightest thing sets them off. Keeping things really clean is important. You still have a really clean base and less waste. I have been putting off using tepidisers but I'm tempted to try it now. I have not considered it at all.. I might try it sometimes. But as you can see, I was on early part of the game(Cycle 65). I prefer water treatment as automated as possible, without needing the dups because I only have few at this point. I had no idea when I can find a steam geyser, so the polluted water from Natural Gas Geyser was my only renewable water source when I design it. Sadly I couldn't find thimble reed plants that is near the edge of the swamp biomes and still have no access to it(Cycle 87). The one I found was infested with slimelung near the center of the biome. SamLogan
Here's mine with 3 pools and a chlorine plantation. First pool on the top : On the top on this pool, I filter the polluted water to the contamined water (blue with germs). I fill this first pool with this water, it's only a stockage water. When the level of water trigger my top Hydro Sensor, the doors open and let the water go to the second pool. After that, the doors close quickly. Second pool I've put a Tepidizer to heat the water around 70°C. The sterilization time is really short, about 3 cycles to sterilize 300K germs. When the water is clean, I open the door with the Atmo sensor manually cause we can't scan the germs level. During, this time, the first pool get fill. Third pool This pool just send the water to my refresh pool and irrigate my plants. Given this set up produces a lot of heat, I use it to heat a chlorine plantation next to it. I made a video of the set up (in French) : Link to comment https://forums.kleientertainment.com/forums/topic/85773-water-treatment/#findComment-987234 Share on other sites
Zarquan
I usually just feed any germy water in to an electrolyzer. The food poisoning germs die very quickly in oxygen, especially if it is hot (like the 70 C default of the electrolyzer) Link to comment https://forums.kleientertainment.com/forums/topic/85773-water-treatment/#findComment-987332 Share on other sites

True, but it dies off almost immediately (if you were to turn off the electrolyzers). There's a chance that thimble reed seeds can spawn as hidden objects in the granite layer between the starting biome and a slime biome. If you get lucky you can pick up a freebie without breaching the slime. Depending on your setup, that may be irrelevant. I've started using the pressure separated Hydrogen box method for filtering Electrolyzer output, which ensures the Hydrogen is 100% contained and goes immediately to the Hydrogen Generator. It is consumed with byproducts, thereby *poof*ing the germs. Zarquan
I actually can usually get thimble reed from the slime biome without exposing my dupes. Usually there is a co2 room and there is a way in without digging any slime.
