NekTahiti
Actually I found that you can run around 10 NGG on a single gas geyser if you are stocking up in batteries and have an automation system to turn off the NGG when batts are full. As long as you are greatly over producing power this will work out fine and can power a lot of stuff on a single gas geyser. Dump all the extra polluted water into pincha peppers and the CO2 goes to slicksters. Before I get to the slicksters I just compress the CO2 using doors and pump it later, same for my coal gen that gets me started until I find a gas geyser. As others said you are better off turning the co2 into oil and heat it back into natural gas for power late game. Alpe12
I don't use Natural Gas geyser because I think they are waaaaaaay too easy power. Early game I use dupe power + coal. Mid game dupe power + natural gas from fertilizer. Late game dupe power + petroleum generator (because using NG from fertilizer is easy too). Use it wisely Link to comment https://forums.kleientertainment.com/forums/topic/85421-how-do-you-power-your-base/page/2/#findComment-984380 Share on other sites
KittenIsAGeek
I generally use a combination of power sources. Dupe power at the beginning. If I don't find a natural gas geyser before around cycle 20, then I use coal. For early to mid-game, the CO2 from coal generators and NGGs is used to first fill a mushroom farm, then is fed to carbon skimmers. As the game progresses, I'll get my electrolyzers up and running, using hydrogen only when the batteries are low (pressure switch when dupes get on the hamster wheel) and saving the rest for other uses. Late game, when my oxygen consumption is high, I'll have at least one and often two hydrogen generators running continually. Make sure to use passive filter setups (either a gas pipe loop or positioning) to separate hydrogen from oxygen so that you produce more power than you're using. Also, I'll have polluted water going to fertilizer makers for natural gas. Hatches will be eating the fertilizer and making coal, so I get both coal power and NGG power out of the deal. Often by this point my polluted water starts to build up, so I'll add a sieve or two and reduce the load on my water geysers. GrindThisGame
I used to use a lot of nat gas generators + fertilizer synthesizers but now I mostly just use manual power (simple, easy low lag). I like to run a base with a lot of dupes though. I use coal power for far away remote projects where I don't want to send wires or pipes far away. Cooking oil into nat gas will give you huge amounts of power and you won't know what to do with it all. There is enough exposed magma for 1000s of cycles. I can't wait for geothermal power. Having a way to directly turn heat into power with maybe steam as a byproduct would be fun...maybe too easy though.
