Don't allow input/output ports on plumbing to have more than one connection

Recommended Posts

So reading the bugs section ... there are quite a few reports on broken filters and the common problem is connecting the input/output ports together. So why not restrict in/out ports to only be connected in one direction, up/down/left/right but not up + down, left + right, up + down + left + right, etc.... This also helps make the plumbing view easier to see joints as the in/out icon usually makes it hard to see if the pipes are connected.

Ehh, NO. I know that you could link via tubes this way, but the bigger reason is that sometimes people will have no choice but link directly to the connection, without linking to the tubes.

There is always a choice, if your design means that's how you have to link pipes then you can choose to change the design. But with that small annoyance it means people can see if they piped the in/out together easier. The icons for those things are so big that it makes it hard to see, and if the icons were smaller it makes it hard to find them.

Maybe the icons being smaller but instead of the output being white a colour that differentiates them from the pipes/vents? Additionally the buildings containing them should be highlighted a bit (also preferably in a colour that isn't used for the pipes/vents/connectors) on the corresponding overlay to make them more visible.

Every pipe tile is a joint with possible branches up, down, left, and right. Input/output on that tile should be just fifth branch of such joint, it should not obstruct flow or general water/gas routing.

Where I see the problem is the routing itself. The game decides some way which way(s) will each tile send its contents. And if inputs and outputs are interleaved in the system, the decisions may lead to some inputs not getting anything.
