voyagebass
In the attached video you can see a dupe climbing down a normal ladder and as soon as he reaches the much slower morb ladder he uses this one instead of the normal one. I don't understand it but I don't want to classify it as a bug. There must be an explanation. One suspicion is the low decor value of the normal ladder compared to undug ground. Any other hints? FluxFaraday
lol, they do that in my game too. This would probably be a tuning issue in the pathfinding system, these often occur in early development. I wouldn't guess that decor had anything to do with it, just an optimistic estimate of the time it takes to climb a ledge compared to using the ladder. Anyone know better? FluxFaraday
I take that back. Why not build decor into the pathfinding cost? I guess one way to test would be to build paintings on the far side of the ladder from the Morb ladder. lcy03406
Dupes do avoid ladders. If you have 1 or 2 tile ladders above floor, dupes will climb on and down the TOP of ladder. But if your ladder is more than 2 tiles high, dupes won't climb to the middle of ladders. Saturnus
Just now, heckubis said: yah what ^ said Not exactly. I corrected your number, and added that it stacks. It was just to be more precise. But your assumption that dupes follow the "scenic" route is sound. Breizhbugs
I think its because the algorithm only count the tiles the dupes step over so the jumping path looks shorter to the algorithm.... voyagebass
Thanks for your replies. Although I like the decor approach I think @Breizhbugs is correct. Let's see if there will be any changes to the pathfinding Link to comment https://forums.kleientertainment.com/forums/topic/75575-why-do-my-dupes-prefer-the-morb-ladder/#findComment-880135 Share on other sites
