Plebgod
so do client mods make the game suddenly crash? Link to comment https://forums.kleientertainment.com/forums/topic/73468-mods/ Share on other sites
HutGenerator
I think usually no.. server mod is the one that usually makes the game crash easily.. But if you are using some weird unstable client mod, it is still possible to crash? Not very sure though. CaptainChaotica
Hmm...I'm no expert, but usually it's some _combination_ of mods that don't like each other, that make the game crash. Or something that needs updating. Some mods don't work well with the beta, yet, so there's another possible factor... ...Notorious Link to comment https://forums.kleientertainment.com/forums/topic/73468-mods/#findComment-859501 Share on other sites
Lumina
3 hours ago, Plebgod said: so do client mods make the game suddenly crash? They should not. You should have an error in the log somewhere, you could try to see what mod is causing the issue. Usually, you will find the client_log in C:\Users\YOURUSERNAME\Documents\Klei\DoNotStarveTogetherANewReignBeta Or C:\Users\YOURUSERNAME\Documents\Klei\DoNotStarveTogether If you aren't in the beta. Arlesienne
There are some client-side mods which often cause disconnections unless they are the only ones at all. Geometric Placement, crockpot prediction mods and quite often Gesture Wheel are frequently found culprits of client disconnection on my servers. @Plebgod needs to share the logs, they contain the necessary information. Starlogy
I know with my old laptop, there weren't client side mods that caused disconnection, but a mod I know that caused some lag on my machine was a minimap mod. It's even lagged my bud @Brikelz machine, and his is way better than mine was. Although I'll agree with @CaptainChaotica and say there are mods that work terribly together, and they don't even have to be just client side. I had a Shipwrecked Characters mod which let me use Warly in addition to his portable crockpot, however, using crockpot prediction caused the game to disconnect, and eventually crash. CaptainChaotica
Gesture Wheel? Dude, of all the harmless-seeming...I never would've expected that one. I mean, it affects absolutely no actual gameplay stuff--just makes it so you can tell your character to do silly little animations without having to type! : P Although I do remember reading about the geometric placement one interfering with stuff, when I was reading about some mods just recently on the Steam workshop. Luckily I don't have that one, and I don't use crockpot prediction/smarter crockpots/whatever 'cos that strikes me as going into the Information That Makes Things Too Easy/Predictable side, along with Combined Status, anything that shows the other players at all time, etc. So I'm safe there. Good thing, too, 'cos I also have a Shipwrecked characters mod...possiby the same one. Huh. ...Notorious Link to comment https://forums.kleientertainment.com/forums/topic/73468-mods/#findComment-859558 Share on other sites

Aren't the animations for each character grouped in the same directory? Like /joy contains each character's Joy animation? Arlesienne
Just now, StarmanNess said: Aren't the animations for each character grouped in the same directory? I think you may want to check the modding area if you wish to delve deeper. You're welcome, but my experiences with modding are pretty much limited to writing quote strings and betatesting, so this is just a quick and dirty explanation of what tends to bug based on the logs my group members send me if they crash. Best ask some real modder :). Link to comment https://forums.kleientertainment.com/forums/topic/73468-mods/#findComment-859932 Share on other sites
CaptainChaotica
Ah, so that's it! I'd been wondering. And then there's event things. Like, say I got a piece of the Lucky Beast costume as a Shipwrecked character, and they hadn't been updated with the new dance yet? Although that's probably not what you're talking about. New gestures would include stuff like...the sleepy and yawn ones, right? Right. I don't have the stuff for either of those myself yet, so... Although I will always have my badass new chicken hat. : P ...Notorious Link to comment https://forums.kleientertainment.com/forums/topic/73468-mods/#findComment-860030 Share on other sites
