Improve Farming

The game should have an intended experience and the balance should be based around said intended experience, yes.  Given that the only official servers are survival, that survival is the default game mode, and that a majority of players play survival mode...it makes perfect sense for the survival experience to be the intended one.  In fact, it would be the only experience that would make sense as intended.

I do want the game to be fresh and interesting, but that can be done within the average play time of 10-20 hours.  Randomizing resources, map layout, set pieces, etc. can all give way to fresh and interesting experiences.  So adding additional content along those lines would be preferential to adding additional content a majority of players will never utilize.

I think you really need to start considering the idea that the game can be played and enjoyed in multiple ways by multiple people and that forcing an "intended experience" is not and never will be a good game design. Not for a sandbox type of survival game. The game should have as many features as possible while staying true to the "survival in a harsh world that is trying to kill you" idea.

And no, randomized resources and layout will never make the game fresh because in the end there is only one way to play it and you seem to be forcing this idea at every opportunity you get.

I fully accept that people can play the game in multiple ways.  I myself have played the game in multiple different ways.  However, that doesn't mean the game shouldn't have an intended experience.  Said experience can include multiple options as these things are not mutually exclusive.

However, when balancing the game...you need to do so a set of rules that define the experience you want the player to experience.  If it isn't Klei's goal to have the average public server only lasting 10-20 hours (75-150 days), then they should shift their official servers from survival to endless/wilderness and start reworking content to better suit those modes.

As of yet, this hasn't happened.  Which means the only conclusion I can draw is that the current average experience is their intended one.  Therefore my designs and criticism of other's designs will be based on this experience.  Given said experience, I feel seasonal crops would be a pretty poor overhaul of the farming system and instead the cooking system should change to make differences in food more interesting.

You're welcome to disagree with me, but unless you provide a good argument for your design...I'm not going to agree with you and as such my comments on said design will be counter to your own.

Honestly farming would be so much more viable if veggie dishes were more useful. I mean yeah you can make some neato things like Fish Tacos with corn but dishes like Bacon/Eggs or Honey Ham take less effort and are more useful.

Heck even the ability to freeze fruits/veggies over an endo fire like I suggested ages ago would be a plus because then you'd have a food source for cooling in the summer. Or perhaps some that go more for one stat instead of all 3. Like maybe you could make a Veggie Stew that is real good for health, but not so much for hunger. 4 corns gets you a Fructose Facepunch. Sanity is locked at full or near full for <time> but then you crash hard. Instantly go to 0. Character will refuse Fructose Facepunches for at least a day because Sugar Highs are always ended with regret. Just spitballin' here. Maybe that's too out there, hu? You get the idea though. More unique and fun veggie based mechanics!

I think farming is fine as it is, just the vegetals themselves need more uses!

Completely agree.

That is indeed an interesting idea for some additional recipes.  Smoothies and various other cold drinks made via farmed items.  This definitely has some potential.

Just no if you think that there is one way to play the game then you haven't thought of another

Yes yes I was so thrilled when Rog came out that they had food that changed your body temp because it made me feel like didn't have to rely on machines as much. If Kiel allows themselves to make weird food like the jellybeans  or coffee  then just protize farmed food then that would be very interesting. I know there was a modded character long ago who had his own tier dishes his whole character was based around sanity manuplation. I know he is still in the workshop he was a zombie but anyway going to full sanity or no sanity had its own buffs and weakness since Kiel out the devlopers they can go even more nuts I'm waiting for my happy hour drinks ;)

The one suggestion I'd agree with is making crops seasonal, but in a different way. I think it could be a cool feature to alter the percentage chance of what crop grows depending on the time of year. For example, Autumn could be mainly pumpkins, while watermelons could become more be more common during Summer/late Spring. Making dragonfruit only obtainable during Summer (keeping the chance 5%) would add something to do in Summer while making the farming system less dragonfruit-centric. However, I believe that more crops could be given additional functionality (such as pumpkins having scarecrows, Jack O'Lanterns and pumpkin cookies) to give more incentives to farm.

This is what i meant with higher chances for seeds in my orginal posts
