Deerclops question

Recommended Posts

Just had my first good winter base obliterated by him.  I don't think I'm good enough at kiting to defeat him.  Would it work to hit him once to get aggro, let him chase me far away from my base, then ditch him on the other side of the map by jumping into a wormhole or something?  Or would he make his way back and destroy my base anyway?

It will certainly turn back at some point, but you can try luring it a good distance away and then cause it to battle something else while you head home. The combat should be enough distraction to not let it follow you back, but it might remember the way it came.

The giants (including Deerclops) always spawn around your location. The Deerclops acts a little different - he will spawn near you, this is right, but will focus on destroying structures instead of attacking you. The best way is to run from base when pre-spawn growls can be heard (best strategy with any giant). After being safely away, place some structure. The sign will work - just keep it prebuilt. Place it and wait for Deer to come. Sometimes he can aggro on other structures, for example pig houses if there are any in close range. Than you can proceed to fight him or distract him. You can make him attack some other mobs and quickly run away. Wormhole will also work :)

Try not to fight clopsy near your base. If there are any structures around where you are, he's going for those first.

Equip your amulet and make sure you've got yourself a hot stone and a tentacle spike then just go to town on him (preferably not an actual town, or he'll destroy that to.), kiting him isn't that difficult, just don't be greedy.

you are definitely good enough to fight him. giants are a lot more simple than people realize. simply wear football helmet, log suit, and try and have a tenticle spike for your first winter to be sure. simply run into him, attack twice (NEVER MORE THAN TWICE) and simply run backwards until he smashes the ground, the instant he hits the groud, turn back and hit him again twice more. try and have 2 fireplaces build for enough lighting, since he usually comes at night, and run to an area with flowers since he drops your sanity quite a bit. you'll be surprised how quick he dies.

This worked like a charm during my last winter session - I heard Deerclops and started making my way to a stone fire pit that was constructed specifically for winter travel between my base and the pig king [a nice little place to warm up]

In this particular instance - I was being chased by a tree  so the Deerclops spawn worked out pretty well.  Deerclops spawned, attacked the fire pit, then attacked/killed the tree.  After the dust settled, Deerclops wandered around in a confused state close to where the fire pit use to be and then vanished once Winter was over.

Bearger on the other hand is a bit more tricky...

For the Bearger: hit him once, make him follow you, take him to a forest. He is so destructive, that before too long he will summon several tree guards that will immediately agro on him for felling so many trees, and will make short work of him. If you are feeling particularly lazy, take him to a stone biome first. Come back the following day with empty pockets to collect all the stones that he "mined" for you.
