Chaquinn
So I was playing on a world with my friend. Summer started so as usual, I went into the caves to escape the heat. I was building a small base when I got an idea. I could make bee boxes and produce mass amounts of honey in the caves. Just to be sure, I checked to see if bee boxes worked in caves. It said that the bee boxes would spawn bees If put in caves. So I built the bee boxes, captured a bunch of butterflies, and setup the farm. At the time I only had about 5-8 flowers planted. I went up to the surface to get some more butterflies, but when I came back, all the flowers were wilted. Is there a way to fix/prevent this? or is it just a permanent thing. Note: I just went to double check the wiki. It said that in regular Don't Starve Bee boxes would not work in caves. In the RoG section it said they would. There wasn't anything on DST so I'm wondering if they have different mechanics. Don't know if it really matters, but I'm putting it there just incase Link to comment https://forums.kleientertainment.com/forums/topic/72106-flowers-in-the-caves/#findComment-842807 Share on other sites
Lumina
Yes, as far as i know you could prevent flower from wilted (? Don't know the word, is the same meaning than wither ?), they need to have enough light so you could manage to do it if they are in area when light come during cave day (like usually near cave entrance). Don't know if others source of light work too (bulb, fire, lamp), i think so but i'm not sure. hkhm
i do this all the time, i have a large bee box area in the caves with lots of flowers and a few orphan bees to spread flowers. the flowers need to be under the skylights, so near an entrance or that part of the caves that has the savanna areas with plenty of skylights. it seems that lightbulb plants do not work and neither do fireflies (though fireflies do work on the crops growing constantly so i drop a firefly on each farm). i have tested this a few different ways and every time the lightbulbs are the only source of light, the flowers wither and die. fimmatek
I also have base in a cave, with beeboxes and flowers of course. They work just like on the surface, no problem occured. I heard, but I'm not sure, that the flowers need sunlight (or just simply light?), otherways they wither. That means you must build your base, or at least your bee boxes and the flowers, under a sinkhole, so that there is light every day. My flowers get light through a sinkhole and never got withered. However, I never tried what happenes with them if they don't have light, so someone must confirm/correct this. Its also summer in my world (If that even matters) Link to comment https://forums.kleientertainment.com/forums/topic/72106-flowers-in-the-caves/#findComment-842833 Share on other sites

By my experience they wither more or less at the point of the circle of light where you would start loosing sanity but still being safe from charlie. And no,summer won't affect any of your plants if they are on the caves. Electroely
Flowers and crops need to be under a cave light to survive. If you're making a base in the caves, I'd recommend putting grass tufts, saplings and berry bushes in the dark along with crafting stations and chests, firepit would be placed at the edge of the sinkhole light in a way which would make lightable after entering yet showing you all (or most of) your base's structures. After all of this, the sinkholes lights could be used for crops and flowers, maximizing farm profits. I hope this helps.
