Pets will be expanded on, right?

Recommended Posts

Because as for now, they're as bare bones as they can be.

I was pretty excited about the pet update, loved the idea of having a loyal companion while enduring the harsh world of the game. But, they are literally "cute things that follow you", nothing more, nothing less.

Don't tell I am the only one that expected at least a little bit more... ok, I am lying. I expected a lot more. Hell, they can't even be named, and don't need to be fed, feeding only makes them shut up.

So, there will be updates for the pets, or they will just stay like this?

They are funny and cute, but after a while, pets are simply a problem on the way to building structures.

I hope they have some benefits as a small sanity aura when they are close (less than gargaland, not to be unbalanced).

Ability to capture small non-hostile creatures like butterflies, moles and rabbits (similar to the catcoon).

As for food, I think it would be a bigger challenge if they actually starved to death if their owner did not feed it on a daily basis, perhaps each pet might need a specific food (fish for Kittykit, meat for Vargling, grass for Ewelet, Ashes for broodling and honey for Glomglom).

For now, I think pets serve as cosmetics and provides the player a 4th-wall-breaking mob that is there but really isn't and does not really interact with the game (except when building, but I think that's there to make it seem that it is actually in the game)

Basically, pets are an illusion that provide the player something to care for but not having to actually worry about dying... a distraction if you will...

That being said, yes, they are bare bones (or were they intended to be this way?) and kinda need some sort of incentive to actually want to make one other than the cuteness factor... say, A Kittykit avoiding combat, trying to stay alive by your side, and after -- let's just say for the sake of the argument -- 2 in-game years, it grows into your own personal and very loyal Catcoon (complete with customization via skins or grooming mechanics) that occasionally cough up items for you... but at this point, they can perform combat and die... but can also be revived via the pet lab (making them revive via the pet lab should make more sense) at the cost of say, a few items (like reviving a pet via a recipe of sorts)

...

Hmm... Broodling... inb4, it grows about 7% larger and can now aid in combat via hit and run tactics... I mean, with the cost of making one, (killing an EA-Lavae), it should be worth more than a cosmetic pet... all in good time... (they could already be working on this, who knows)

O__O

For now, they just make spelunking a walk in the park, because when you feed a vargling glowberries, it won't stay away from you like other followers, and needs not worry about sanity drains.

Your ideas are very nice if you ask me (and I'm not saying that just because they are like the part of my How to Tame Your Hound idea thread). Luckily @V2C wrote us hints in the code about pets being a WIP feature for future expansion.

Well, we are half-way with a "A New Reign". So I'm sure they will add more stuff to pets in upcoming updates.

I really like this ideas:

For  now they are meant to be cosmetic and cute i believe they are working on making something more interesting and giving them an use other than having a pet that whines all  the time for food.Yes it's nice to have one but i don't see a use for them other than having a cute companion
