TheKingofSquirrels
I don't know if anyone else has done this before, but I was curious to see what would happen if you spawned certain creatures from Shipwrecked into ROG. I was mostly interested in the marine creatures and how they interacted with the old Don't Starve ocean. Here's my findings: Edit: Forgot to say, spoilers...duh. My Favourites These are not only the ones that work the best, but actually look good and fit in with the ROG setting. Blue Whale Despite it maybe not looking great here, when it's moving it actually does look like a natural mob and fits well with the moving waves. Dolphins, or whatever they're called Dogfish These have absolutely no practical use, you can't attack them unless they are right near the edge. I just like them a lot because they add more life to world. Quacken The Quacken looks really cool, but it doesn't really do anything other than spit at you when you get to close. It just sits there. Things that don't work at all. Boats You can spawn a boat, but if jump on it, it will fall apart. I seem to remember a previous member posting pictures of sailing in ROG, so I'm pretty sure someone at Klei actively went out to sabotage sailing. Klei just hates fun I guess. Jellyfish Once they spawn, they die immediately. Seagulls (and other Shipwrecked birds) I was really hoping that Seagulls would float on water, they don't, they just stand on it. Plus, they fly away and despawn. I assume this happens with all Shipwrecked birds. However, I think there is nothing stopping you from catching one and putting them in a bird cage to stop them from flying away. Plus, I'm pretty sure you can transfer them from Shipwrecked without commands anyway. Twister (AKA Sealnado) This only works as long as something agros it instantly once spawned. If not, it just runs away and despawns. Here it started attacking a Tiger Fish Things that work ok-ish. Crabs You could also probably spawn dens so they spawn naturally. As there is no real beach biome in ROG, they don't really fit. They even hide. Wobsters If you spawn their dens, the'll come out in the evening. It doesn't look great though. Water Beefalos If you spawn them on land they work fine, but on water they float unnaturally. Again, setting doesn't fit with them anyway. Interestingly though, unlike the player and other mobs, they can cut through the wall between ocean and land like in Shipwrecked. Tiger Fish Works except it can sometimes lower frame rate and also doesn't cause the land to shake like other giants. I forgot to test if they swim or not, it probably doesn't as most animals that are both land and water based tend to just walk over ROG's ocean. Snakes They work perfectly fine, just spawn a den. Nothing wrong with them, just be aware that if you get poisoned then you are pretty much dead, as there is no seaweed or coral in ROG, Sealnado (in seal form) Cute, but just sits there. Stinkrays You can see their shadows like dogfishes and dolphins, but as they don't pop out unless you are close to them, there's not much point. That's it, I didn't bother with monkeys because we all know those work. For fun, I checked if I could spawn in Hutch and other Together items, I can't. Remember Klei when you said that content segregation sucked and you would never do it...Yeah. Anyway, if I ever play single player again, I'm definitely spawning a whale to keep me company, and maybe some dolphins and dogfish.
