Positive Feedback!

Recommended Posts

I've seen a lot of negativity on these forums lately and just wanted put in something positive for once. I may only be one person, but I truly love everything about this game. My best friend got me into it and I adore every aspect of it. The developers really know what they're doing, and I cannot wait to see what they have in store for us, since I know they're working hard. If it isn't too much to ask, I'd like to hear from other players why they enjoy the game, whether it be something simple such as the story line to something a little complex, such as how the game is designed. Thank you :^>!

my favorite part is playing with my best friend! hi kasey :wilson_flower:

also, i really love the aesthetic and gameplay. DS and DST (SW and RoG, too) quickly became my favorite games because, well, they're so fun! i don't really have any complaints because i'm always having fun.

I can say that for DST, I love those moments where I can work with random players and do some base building. The art style is a plus.

I agree! I love how the game can also bring people together :^> Everyone's personal flair can come together in a base if you're focusing more on the aesthetic aspect than the protection. Although protection is of utmost importance :wilsoalmostangelic:

I totally agree! I'm always having fun too :wilson_dorky:

I really have no complaints, I truly enjoy everything. I love how smoothly it runs too, and in my opinion, can never get old.

For me, it was the gameplay that hooked me in first, and the awesome art style, music, old-fashionedness and the way they keep it so consistent...the whole _aesthetic_ of the game in general is seriously delicious icing on top of an already yummy cake.

But the first thing that got me was the survival, build-up-from-nothing-and-gradually-get-fancier deal (I LOVE that in games) and the fact that...wait a minute...this is a procedurally-generated-world, permadeath game where...you actually CAN make progress by means of carrying knowledge to the next run, and actually not be SO randomised it seems like there's no point at all?

...SEEya, Nethack!  That is precisely what I've always wanted from every roguelike game I've ever tried*--just the ability to _learn_ something actually useful--right before you die and have your save file wiped.  That makes it feel like you're still making _some_ kind of progress (while still being bloody hard) and is SO much more satisfying.

Survival + crafting + "hierarchy of needs" + awesome style + hard-but-conquerable = one happy customer.

*Not saying that Don't Starve IS a roguelike.  It's got a few elements of that genre, though.

I love how you broke it down into the main elements! :wilson_love: Conquering the game is very very satisfying, which personally makes me want to keep playing!

love the different aspect of playing as webber and how he can eat monster meat which hurts other players and gives a different outlook to the game, games with 2 factions+ or sides to them are really awesome and give a broader experience to the player

Same! I love how different the characters are and their perks and disadvantages :>

I like the challenge, the permadeath, the characters, the art style, the lore, and the absolute weirdness of DST. The fact that something like this is actually just like the game is hilarious :D

I love that picture! It's honestly kind of cute, but it is really funny! It really makes me happy to read everyone's favorite things about the game.

Oh, yeah, the characters.  Did I mention the characters?  I don't think I did, specifically.  I love how they're all quirky, how they (mostly) all have their own advantages and disadvantages which translate in game terms not so much to black-and-white This Character Is More Efficient but...a lot more to one's own play style and preferences (this character is usually better here UNLESS you know how to do/you've gotten ahold of so-and-so...) and, of course, the overall tone, weirdness, and sense of humour.  And, of COURSE, the lore.  Every time we get to know anything more it's like "OOOOOH...!" and it starts your brain spinning down the paths of several _new_ questions...

I mean, I've described it before as "Tim Burton and Edward Gorey Present:  H. P. Lovecraft's Harvest Moon" and who the heck wouldn't love THAT?  :D

I remember my first time seeing this game on a twitch stream a few years back when the single player was out. So many things had me drawn to buy it just from watching it and, I'm usually the very nit-picky type of person that only plays specific games (the multiplayer games that cater to skill with no grind kind). The artwork, crazy items, enemies, you name it, most of it made me love it.

I can't believe how many times I had questions about how and why things happened that couldn't be answered unless I searched the wiki. It was really exciting learning how thrive and "not starve" the best way possible on my own back then. For newcomers this game does not come with a manual so, starting out everything is a mystery and what you do in-game can bring amazing moments that happens only when you don't have experience. The sad part is once you've done, seen, killed, made everything the game loses difficulty because you know what to do already,. the game is really worth every dollar to me and I am shocked it doesn't cost more for the generous devs giving us free content, it has faults but every game does. I'm just really glad we're finally getting new updates so, I can get back into this again since I've burnt myself out on doing everything there is to do.

I agree, I think the developers are super generous, especially with all this stuff coming soon. The game has really developed into something great, and I know we'll have more great things to come! Also, I agree with what you said about how every game has faults. I really don't like seeing people complain about a game with little faults, especially this one. The devs here work so quick to fix bugs, it's unreal!
