Unique line for inspecting a character who has deliberately lit a structure on fire

Recommended Posts

It would help players identify griefers -- base burners, specifically -- if characters who have deliberately lit structures on fire had a line to show that when you click on them, the way players who've attacked or killed other players do. I specifically mean using a torch, lighter, or fire staff to directly ignite a structure by right-clicking on it, not putting a campfire (or Dwarf Star) too close to them or otherwise catching them on fire by burning an item nearby; the latter could legitimately happen by accident, and seems a lot harder to track in terms of coding anyhow, but the former is something you have no good reason to do outside of hindering other players and can't really do by accident. (I mean, technically it might help you survive if you're freezing to death or if you're a Willow and your sanity is at rock bottom, but there's almost always something else that would be better to burn and even newbies normally recognise this.)

Currently, to catch a base-burner you have to either catch them in the act of igniting the base or have reason to rule out all other causes (other players, fire hounds, the summer sun). If the act of igniting structures changed a player's inspection quote, it would be easier to find the perpetrator and either retaliate against them or kick them from the server, depending on which is more situationally appropriate. (Since not all DST games are co-op, even though most are.) It's not a perfect solution -- a stealthy griefer could start a fire next to a structure to avoid being detected -- but I think it would be helpful and not a lot of extra work to add to the code. (At least, for Klei; editing all the characters' speech would probably be difficult for a modder.)

One would have to make a distinction for people who purposely burn trees in order to get charcoal though, since that's not griefing if done for making Crock Pots and Drying Racks and such.

Structure

Unless of course you're suggesting to the op that they should not have that quote identity for burning trees, but I'm pretty sure the op knew about that which is why the title says "structures"

@CameoAppearance This was an excellent idea! LUA fans might have noticed that new FIRESTARTER lines are in the works. Currently they're not hooked up to anything, but this will likely be implemented in the next patch. If so, it will be included in the patch notes ;)

Alright, no need to be so snippy. >.>
