Is this a good world for a mega base?

Recommended Posts

I just spent all of the autumn going through this world, and I think it's nice but I don't know if it's good enough to start working the whole thing over. It has a maxwell statue in a nice place of land, easy beefalo, a trio of walrus camps, and plenty of savanah but I'm concerned if the rocks and the birch forests are ok to work with. Can I have your opinion on it?

If you want a mega base, set world gen settings just right until you have a circular-ish world that you can customize.

Land loop always, branch never seems to work pretty well

With both set to the minimum, you get a straight line.

At the bottom you see the effect of lots of branching

Sorry that the command text is still on screen, I can't seem to get it off the screen without closing the game.

if you want it off screen, do ctrl+L

If you can't take out the text you always do CTRL + L, or you can change the key to another one in the controls menu.

And for the mega base, you can always do as Emerphish said and you can also make the world big so you can have space for any project/ farm that you want to do!

Remember to jump worlds at least 2-3 times before you make your megabase so you can have some non-renewable resources like the guardian's horm, thelecutie(spelling FTW!), gems, gears, etc.

Ok, In advance let me say, please forgive my ignorance - I am a little confused, if on those settings the world appears as one landmass in a line, Its not so easy to get from A to B as you have to walk all the way from one end to the other. Say for instance that your tooth traps are in the savannah, but you are in the process of mining the rocks when a big old hound attach hits.  I am sure I am missing something, can someone please explain the overall benefit of this type of world gen?

You are correct. If you want a world that is a slightly curved line, set both to minimum. I can't make the decision for you, I was just giving you all the options.

awww and there I was thinking you would come up with some amazing bit of insight to the best world that I could not fathom!  I have to say that I find that option more of a grind, however - horses for courses, I am sure there are many that prefer it... I just rocked up with this world for Wiggers (im pretty sure I used world gen default settings), never played her before but am loving the layout of this world, have not explored it all yet, but again (like OP) three walrus camps! Great area where I was initially spawned so set up base camp there, Have identified 3 of the 4 items so can world hop but want to bunk down here for a while as everything is pretty much to hand.

OP,  Personally I like that world, other than the lack of rocks, however, you can make do pretty easily with that amount, plus there are the caves - if someone ends up settling there is always going to come a point where you are out of rocks/minerals and the caves is the place to go.  As for birch woods... the less the better IMO... hate those birch tree guards!

The only thing I don't find interesting in this world gen is the pig village location. I guess I'm just used to see first the birchnut forest and then the village, inside of it.

But well, this is just my taste. I think you can do a pretty good base taking all the other birchnut forest (the one without pig king) and some space to the left where the bee hives are. The rock supply in the upper world is fine too. If you live enough to see it gone, you have 3 caves + ruins to explore.

And in the little savannah, left corner, I would make (if there's no beefalos there - too much trouble moving them)  that ol' big pinecone tree farm-forest :) And you could use that little rock land in the upper left for boss battles too (like bearger).

Also, I planned on renewing things like caves and thulecite by linking to Shipwrecked. I'm planning on getting lots of items and cobblestone from worldhopping in Shipwrecked and keeping my world constant. Non-renewable resources are easy with shipwrecked, especially gears.

@queenb33 I always deforest birchnuts in winter that way they never spawn treeguards

but also when they spawn in any other season you could leave them, say for 4 minutes and then come back, and after that for some reason they stop attacking so you could easily chop them down and collect living logs and nightmare fuel
