More Flint Use?

Recommended Posts

I have about 240 flint saved and I am less then a year in. Even when I play with friends (3+ people all using it) it begins to pile up as we all start switching to golden tools once the pig king is located (Usually within 7 days). This is all on default settings as well. Will there ever be some use for it (Like on the rocks/grass/wood level) other then basic tools? I know it's used in the thermal stone, bee mines, and cheap rock lobster food, but that still doesn't seem to be enough (Even if you are awful at managing thermal stones). Some ideas...

Spike Pit - Similar to the tooth trap in that stepping on it causes damage, but unlike the tooth trap that is a true trap, this would harm anything that steps on it, so players in addition to creatures. Wouldn't need to be reset but only damages when it's stepped on (so you can't spin a mob in circles to rack up damage.

Spiked Walls - A wall variant that combines flint with wood/rock to make walls that hurt those that attack them. Could also instead be an upgrade you put on preexisting walls.

Club - A variation of the spear that takes a couple more flint, but doesn't require rope.

On another note, is there a mod that gives them more uses? (I only found one but it made orange/green/yellow gems with it which is absurdly OP)

I agree, I always have a ton of flint piled up and it really becomes useless after like day 20. I noticed the same thing with Bee Stingers as well, I have about 140 stingers just laying in a chest and they are useless other than making sleeping darts (and I never use sleeping darts because enemies are already too easy to deal with). Booster shots require Stingers but I already have at least 10 booster shots at all times and the 140 stingers are gathering dust in a chest.  So yes more uses for flint and more uses for stingers!

You forgot about spears but even then, spears are just for early days/weak enemies. There is also Wigfrid's spear that is pretty solid with no gimmicks and another option if you dont want to waste spikes on weak mobs. But these weapons are cheap so you still stack a lot of flint anyway.

I like the spike wall idea, some people love to waste a lot of time and effot just to make walls everywhere, so this would be a good way to waste all that flint. Could be an upgrade that requires stone wall and flint to craft. Maybe add stingers too just for the sake of wasting them?

I'm sure most of the weapon mods for don't starve use flint in some way, like swords. Also found this interesting Spike Trap mod that uses wood, flint and stinger.

In pub servers i normally join, the natural flint resources are very low as all the people who join early take literally everything and log off/dont give it to anyone else. While i personally think this might be a good idea, it may 'bait' many new players into using their 2-3 flint on crafting mid-endgame tier items in the first 10 days.

Suggestion: We can use flints to ignite burnable things. One possibility how it could be realized: Crafting a "flint-ignition-tool" with 5 flints. It has 10 usages and you can equip it on your hands. With it you are able to ignite objects, like sleeping rabbits, grass, twigs and so on - maybe also trees.

Besides, what I wish to ve is to be able to put on an already created fire more burnable things, like we can do on camp fire or fire pit. For example you drop grass and ignite it with that flint tool or torch. Then you can put a log into it to increase the fire. I like it. I think there is also a similar mod, but the explained way is simpler and even can replace a camp fire.

Another thing: The bigger the fire is, the bigger the radius it will get of being seen by players far away. During night the radius is generally bigger

The obvious answer is to give it to slurtles for slime.

I usually carry a stack of slime as it acts as non-spoiling fuel for lantern/miner's hat and an explosive in a pinch.

wow, I didn't even know that's how they made slime, they certainly seem more useful now.
