Friendly Boaty Night - A Solution for Sea Hounds and Gears

Recommended Posts

We are all aware of the abundancy of gears thanks to the Floaty Boaty Knights, and there aren't enough uses for them to actually make use of the gears.

We are also all aware of the fact that the only way to deal with sea hounds properly(at least lategame) is to cheap them out(which is not really a good way design wise).

So here is my idea to fix both of these issues at once.

Upon Death, Floaty Boaty knights don't entirely sink. They leave behind a boat that isn't that strong, and has an iron wind like "sail"(less fast of course, it shouldn't rival it, it should just be enough to actually travel), but it cannot be equipped with anything(like the Sea Legs).

Now, repairing that boat with gears will transform it into a Friendly Boaty Knight(10 gears possibly).

What are Friendly Boaty Knights good for? They act as turrets. Possibly can be upgraded with even more gears to be more combat effective.

This way, they take care of the lategame hound waves, as well as being a use for gears when they become abundant.

I like the idea of friendly Floaty Boaty Knights, well done.

Personally I would give the normal Floaty Boaty Knights another drop:

1-3x - Gears (100%)

1x - Knight Head (10%) (or something like that)

Then you can craft a friendly Floaty Boaty Knight with an Alchemy Engine in the Nautical Tab:

1x - Knight Head

5x - Gears

9x - Coconuts

You can place the friendly Knight than like a Armored Boat on the water and he will escort you like a friendly Pig Man as long as you are on the water, if you go on land, he will stay at his position. He has a map icon, can be healed with gears and only attacks creatures that attack him, the player or when you target a creature.

He does 50 damage and has 500 health, every gear you give him will heal him full. If he dies he drops some gears and coconuts.

Friendly Floaty Boaty Knights would help against Sea Hounds and we would get a proper use for all those Gears in our chests.

Very good idea Anonymous Koala. (^__^)

I like my idea for a turret. However, your idea is also solving another issue: Lack of followers at sea, that makes all followers, useless.

I'm going to be the Oddball here and say that making Floaty Boatknights yourself isn't something that should be a thing. Not because the Idea is bad but because it doesn't make sense.

Clockworks always have been enemys and no one has the ability to recreate them not even Maxwell who created them in the first place can craft them so being able to make the Floaty Version is not a Lorefriendly thing. Now if we get something akin to the Broken CLockwerks in the ruins like say next to the Shipgraveyards then i have no problems with because just as the Clockwerks in the Ruins these have been destroyed long ago and you repair them and probably refit them to protect you.

Again not a bad idea but just saying it should be an Option isn't a viable solution because we also have to remember the bounds and rules that the DS world goes by and it always has gone by the rule that Clockwerk Constructs are enemys that can only be converted because they where already broken beforehand (or because of all the Nightmarejuice flowing through them who knows)

Thats why I didn't want to craft them, but rather, put them in your side. After their demise they become broken clockwork like things essentially.

But that would be to OP tbh considering how frequent they show up. Again i rather have special Setpieces in Coral Reefs for them instead of just repairing every Floaty Boatknight that Sinks near my Island because after about 2 Season you'r going to have an Armada of Knights just near your Island and nothing can really stop you after that.

Hmmm...

True about it needing balancing because of the insane re-spawn rate.
