So lets get down to Monkey Buisness (again)

So since the last patch Wilbur got a small little addition to his kit and that's the ability to throw Manure at stuff. Haven't played around with it to much but i like the idea specialy since it makes capturing Birds a lot less annoying. However i still think Wilbur needs a certaint something to make his Kit a lot more interesting and fun to play or just change up the core gameplay a bit.

So some of my ideas are a bit simpler but i though i might share them anyway.

- For one he should start out with the Prime-Ape Hut recipe right from the start and be able to construct them to a reduced cost. I though about reducing it to 6 Sticks, 2 Bananas and 3 Manure from the usual recipe (10 Sticks, 3 Bananas, and 4 Manure). Mostly just so he can make Prime-Ape colonies a lot faster.

- He should be able to befriend Prime-Apes with other types of Fruit other then Bananas. COnsidering he is gets a good chunck of benefits from the apes he still can't recruit them as easily as say Webber can with Spiders because they only accept Bananas what aren't the easiest food to aquire.

- He should gain less food values from Meat but gain increased values from any type of Fruit. Mostly because i feel like he could be an interesting choice for a more vegetarian approach to the gameplay.

- His Manure producing should be based on the amount of food he eats and not on a timer. I mean we all know how it goes food goes in poop comes out so i don't see the reason for his Manureproduction to be tied to a random timer.

- He should start out with maybe 2-3 Bananas in his Inventory similar to how Webber and Wigfrid start out with some Meat in their Inventories.

- He should be able to climb trees to collect different items from them. This would work as follows if you go to a tree while no item is equipted in the handslot (he needs both his hands and his tail to climb) you get the Climboption and Wilbur will climb up the tree and search for stuff in the foilage. While doing this we will throw down random items from the Tree like Eggs, Seeds for the Tree (Jungletree Seeds, Coconuts, Birchnuts etc), Bananas (from Jungletrees), etc. to the ground where you can collect them.

I feel like there is a lot of potential in Wilburs kit but atm he's just slightly better then some of the base chars because of his running (i'm aware that it's a lot better in RoG still though 1 mechanic doesn't make a character interesting to play) but his powers as both King of the Prime-Apes and him being a Monkey himself aren't really utilized to the maximum potential.

And maybe something instakilling, so it will be more "Don't Starve" :D

I don't believe Don't Starve is about instakilling, it's quite the opposite - slow painful agonizing knowledge you're going to die.

Say hello to meteors.

Football helmet disagrees, although just barely (they 2 hit some characters).  Point being many forms of death in Don't Starve are the exact opposite of insta kills, very few such events exist and multiple ways of avoiding them.  Having a character mechanic which invites instakills is not something I'd vote for.

I like the idea of Wilbur starting with bananas and the ability to craft a prime-ape hut, though I don't think he needs a reduced recipe cost, since he produces his own manure, I generally get lucky with tree drops, and sticks are pretty easy. Even when I'm not playing him it's one of the first things I build since I always seem to find monkeys before anything else... unfortunately. I think it would also be cool if eh got his crown in his starting inventory, and it could give him a sanity boost when worn, or maybe the crown could be like a beefalo hat for monkeys. Idk how he gets other hats over that pointy thing.

I also like your idea about him being able to give more types of food to befriend them, though I think I would prefer it if, instead of them taking a wider variety of fruit, more of them would join your team after feeding one. When you feed a spider monster meat as Webber 3-4 of them come to my side, making it very easy to get larger group to fight each other while I stand unharmed in the middle picking up loot. But feeding one ape gets you one ape, and having them fight each other for loot is impossible without having a large supply to begin with, as the apes pick up everything immediately if you're not playing Wilbur, because they won't fight next to you. Even if you are they still eat the bananas, which is what I generally want. I'd like it if feeding one ape would get me a small fighting force that would actually do something, instead of screaming from far away and getting killed in one hit.

I disagree with the concept of him being a more vegetarian play style, since apes are generally omnivores. I also disagree with the food to manure production concept, since you have to eat pretty regularly anyways, and eating more food to get more manure would be a bit broken, having people shovel food into a full stomach to make farms to make food to eat to poop to make farms to eat...
I also find the tree climbing idea a little redundant since it would take a fair bit of work to animate for the same result that your can already get by chopping trees.

The only buff I would really like is if he would run on all fours ALL THE TIME. Or at least sooner than 3 seconds into walking; sealnado is kicking my butt because I'm too slow.

I like all of your ideas, except the climbing on trees part.

Everything else is fairly easy to implement, makes sense in the game and doesn't even need new animations.

I really think Klei and Capy should implement all of that...except climbing

Good work Mr. L...aem...P. ^^

As far as I know, the Prime Apes in DS SW only eat fruit and vegi items, but no meat.

So in DS logic it would make sense that he only eats fruits and vegetables.

EDIT:

"Prime Apes will curiously scavenge for most items they find on the ground, pick Berry Bushes and Mushrooms, and harvest crops from Farms. When hungry, they will eat any Fruits and Vegetables in their inventory. They will produce Manure in their inventory when they eat, unless they already possess a stack of 3 or more Manure."

They eat indeed only fruits and vegetables and they produce there manure after eating stuff.

So it would make sense if Wilbur produces manure after eating "enough" fruits and vegetables aswell.

He has the same health as the Prime Apes, can throw manure, can run like them...so why shouldn't he eat and shi... like them too? ^^
