Monkeys ain't that bad, i got a wilbur playthrough but it's kinda the same with the other characters. The left wing of my islands hold loads of monkeys and loads of snakes. Every evening theres a war going down there. So many loot especially snakeskin bananas morsels and manure. I closed the area off with a wall so they stay there. If i don't want to fight hounds i just go there and let them kill some monkeys for me and they die in the process. Although the monkeys don't pick up stuff from willbur except food and hats. And if i need tons of manure i just boomerang 1 monkey from the other side of the wall. You'll get so much poop thrown at your face.

Haha yeah, well they steal everything from me, was playing as Wilson :p  Not a bad strat to do as you said, but since I kinda end up being nomad I don't get attached to building and modifying the island, prefer adapting to it.

That said, I just finished a playthrough which ended with some Sealnado sucking me in and sending me to beardy heaven.  Didn't know he existed since I just kinda bought the dlc and jumped in, I guess there are still quite a few mysteries in the game haha.  Next playthrough I'm gonna kebab that bastard if he ever shows up again!

So what do you use for light at night during hurricanes?  Do you just waste tons of fuel keeping a fire going?

Multiple 600+ day games in RoG.  I think I'm good.

Then you shouldnt have any Problems. In my opinion it is really easy. Unless you forgot something and die.

Just a little tip for you. When you see he starting his sucking animation get out of there just till you can't see him on screen. And when he's done sucking go back in and slay the sucker XD

Thanks, will be sure to try this, I thought he did it to pull a player off screen to him but I guess I should rethink the strat :p

My suggestion to you, hotflung is something along these lines:

Yup, way ahead of you, this is all basic stuff.  It still comes down to not finding stuff I need.

It's not been my experience that 'only a couple of islands are gold less', the majority of them have no gold from what I've seen.  Sometimes I'll find one and that will be it for 15 islands, and sometimes I'll find an island with 20+.  I haven't changed any of the basic world parameters, this is just how it seems to be going.  One or two bad games would be bad luck, but when it happens game after game I start thinking it's something other than luck.

It's theoretically possible you got a long string of unfavorable procedural generation, but it sounds more like you need to reconsider your exploration strategy.  Nobody in this entire thread mentions similar issues to what you're experiencing, and while that is not empirical evidence by any means, it's a possible indication you're doing something or other wrong.

Maybe you need to explore differently? If you move in a rough spiral, circling out from the center spawn point, you might have better luck. I have played as many games as you and I have always found at least one gold-veined Boulder near my first island.

I quite like this suggestion, I usually just charge ahead along the waves and then backtrack in a grid fashion but a spiral (as wide as possible without leaving space for a medium sized island) would probably work even better and be more efficient.

Why didn't I ever think of this before :p

I already do this.

I just had a good game going, and then the sealnado showed up, sucked me in from off screen, and insta killed me through armor and helmet.  Yeah I think I'm done for a while.

To each their own.

Yeah that was one of my deaths too, some said you can outrun it apparently, I thought it was quite a funny way to die personally, but as Hugeisno1 said, if it's stressing you out just take a break, no point trying to have fun and ending up on edge and anxious instead :s

Take care, hope to see you back :)
