Farming Dubloons? How to get a lot efficiently?

Recommended Posts

So I have done what I wanted to do in prep for the new update. I have a krampus sack and over 11 gold stacks for the world.hop. Now I want to get as many dubloons as possible. Currently I have 29 of them.

What are your strategies for getting a lot of them coins?

The best way for getting dubloons is to live as close as possible to Yaarctopus and trading with it daily with simple trades. Second option is trawling for trinkets for trading, which always generates more than 3 dubloons per trade depending on quality of the trinket. But that take a lot more time out in the ocean trawling. Third option is to live in an island with Jungle Turf, or transfer Jungle Turf to your own base so more Pirate Parrots appear.

That's the only logical strategies that I know of, there could be more in the future. EA afterall. At one point I had 2 full stacks of dubloons just by living very close to Yaarctopus in one full season.

I don't know if there are even other ways to get dubloons than that. I hope that doesn't spoil too much of the game for anyone that happens upon this post.

Cheers.

Okay, thanks.

I just checked the trawl net in the Wiki. Would you say that the trawling in "midway" is the best for getting trinkets or "deep"? The percentages for getting trinket seem to be higher in "midway" regardless of the season.

Chances of getting better loot in general goes up in the deep waters.Trinkets however have a higher chance to be looted in the deep during the hurricane season. That is, if you like the challenge of dodging big waves left and right.

Trawling in "midway" seems safer and compared to other seasons also has chance to produce trinkets, but also be aware that junk loot also has a higher chance to appear in that area of the seas compared to the deep.

Personally I prefer the deeps, as the deep has the least chance for junk loot to appear. Less resources wasted on junk items that you could get elsewhere, the better. Good luck out there, cheers.

@Zillvr Actually, midway is better for trinkets. I'm guessing this was unintended, but because of the way the trawling chances work, having there be more options for items you can get reduces the chance of getting particular items, and there are fewer things you can get in medium depths than deep water. I updated the wiki on this a few days ago and left an explanation of how these chances are calculated in a comment in the wikitext (before it had mistakenly listed chances based on a bucket system, but it uses a ticket system):

Explanation of the math behind this:
Each season/depth category has its probabilities calculated independently.
Items in this category can have one of four rarity tiers, which are weighted 8, 4, 2, 1, respectively.
It sums all of the weights of all the items in a category, and then that items weight divided by the total is the probability.
For example, Mild Shallow has 2 highs, 4 mids, and 3 lows, for a total of 2*8 + 4*4 + 3*2 = 38
Each high then has a probability of 8/38 = 21.1%, rounded
mid has 4/38 = 10.5%
low has 2/38 = 5.3%

Technically this is called a "ticket system" because you can think of it as each item submitted its weight in tickets to a lottery (e.g. each high item puts in 8 tickets), and then a ticket is randomly drawn to choose the item.

Feel free to double-check my math, this was pretty tedious and I might've miscounted in a category.

Also, check data/DLC0002/scripts/prefabs/trawlnet.lua to make sure these are up-to-date.
