Hacking

Recommended Posts

@TMJJack, hacking is a waste of time after a certain point in the game.

Gold Shovel + ( Wildboar + Berry Farm or Monkeys ) = Hacking is waste of time.

Simply shovel the bamboo/vines and replant/fertilize them.

This shows why hacking should be tweaked - It doesn't make sense if it is the fact that digging & replanting is more efficient than hacking.

The machete is too expensive and wears out ways too fast. I wouldn't mind some longer hacking animations but they drain your flint and gold resources insanly fast.

So shoveling isn't only faster and easier it is even more efficient.

---> Klei (or Capy) Buff please!

Agreed.

@Lacost, actually, using a shovel is faster. 3 Actions versus 6 Actions; this time adds up over the lifespan of playing a single game.

Dig -> Plant -> Fertilizer -> Reward | Requires: x2 Twigs, x2 Flint Basic Shovel or x4 Twigs, x2 Gold Golden Shovel, x1 Rot or Poop

Hack -> Hack -> Hack -> Hack -> Hack -> Hack -> Reward | Requires: x1 Twig, x3 Flint Basic Machete or x4 Twigs, x2 Gold Golden Machete

If the wikia is accurate, it states the Luxury(Golden) Machete has 400 uses and deals 34 damage. I'm sorry, but I'd rather use that as a weapon than a hacking instrument any day of the week.

I suppose they were trying to give us a realistic feel for hacking our way through impenetrable jungle. But I agree it doesn't make a lot of sense when you can scoop up any plant life in a trice with a shovel. I also can't for the life of me think why an axe which can fell a tree can't make any impression on bamboo... IRL a machete is constructed to give a smooth, swinging action as you walk along, while an axe is intended to be yielded while standing. It's not that it can't do the same job in terms of sharpness, it just has more weight for taking down the big stuff.

IRL, the machete is supposed to be used to hack the bamboo, or vine with one single, charged cut, not currently chopping.

The vines and bamboo are lighter in weight, so that not so steady as trees, that's why we need a machete instead of an axe: the axe is heavy and won't accelerate fast, while the machete could gain more velocity before the hitting the object so the object can be hacked in a single cut, instead.

What if bamboo/vines took 3 hits to hack instead of 6?

It make sense that it takes 3 hacks for a bamboo patch, because each bamboo patch has 3 bamboos.

But I'd better like each hack loots one piece of bamboo, and so it's like.

While, the vine, i think it would make sense if it require a single cut to hack. If this is OP, just spawn more yellow snakes to balance the game.

Good point on the machete there.

They won't give you multiple loot on the hacking because there is already plenty of bamboo, but I do like your logic and the illustrations :)
