Void92
I've just bought a game with dlc's, so how to play it: with RoG and SW turned on (if it's possible), just with RoG, or classic with no dlc ? will it make any difference ? does it affects on difficulty ? Cyde042
Let me get it straight, you bought the game and DLC's without knowing what it's about? Link to comment https://forums.kleientertainment.com/forums/topic/60095-dlc-choice/#findComment-692827 Share on other sites
sakuranbo
If you've never played DS, I would recommend you to start with classic no dlc to learn the basic. Next you can try to play with RoG, cause it make game more challenging and interesting with new season and mechanics. For now you can't play both dlcs together. Shipwrecked is still in early access and is really challenging for new player so I would try it in the end ^^. Sorry for my English Link to comment https://forums.kleientertainment.com/forums/topic/60095-dlc-choice/#findComment-692831 Share on other sites

I know that RoG is about giants and caves, and SW is about islands and boats If you've never played DS, I would recommend you to start with classic no dlc to learn the basic. Pyromailmann
RoG is basically a challenge for veterans. Shipwrecked I haven't played yet but expecting likewise coming from RoG. PhelsarusBeel
I say the difficulty curve goes like this BasegameCaves (still in the basegame iirc)AdventuremodeReign of Giants Shipwrecked atm is between i say Caves and adventuremode in terms of difficulty. It's easy to get used to the new mechanics but they throw enought curveballs at you to make you think and addapt to new mechanics. So i say do the basegame first once you got a good grasp of what's going on you can start spelunking in the Caves and search for more treasure and probably unlock the rest of the cast if you didn't do that before. After that you want to do Adventuremode and even though it's pretty hard sometimes it also helps you to leanr the importance of addaptation as each map has a new gimmick you need to learn. And after you'r done with that you can throw yourself at RoG and see how you fair against the biggest Foes the game has to offer. Shipwrecked i say wait and see how it unfolds but if you get sick of Adventruemode you might as well give it a shot so far i have great oll time (although i just got to season 2). Devon Aster
I've found Shipwrecked to be about on par with RoG. It's definitely more difficult than base DS. I would recommond base DS, first, as already suggested. Once you've gotten a good feel for the mechanics and have refined your survival techniques, try out RoG. This will give you the advantage of being able to use what you know, while getting familiar with new things like dealing with wetness, overheating, and a four season cycle. Only after that would I say to go to Shipwrecked. SW is a step away from the old world, introducing the chance of dealing with poison, as well as brand new crafting and cooking recipes. But it also uses wetness, overheating, and a four season cycle. It might be a bit much to deal with all the new and different resources and such coming straight from the base game. I don't think so I would say Shipwrecked would be way harder than Reign of giants at the moment, cause it's really hard to make a lot of food in the crock pot since most of the meats are fish which means you have to dry the fish meat first and poison could really kill you early on if you can't rush a antidote. Rincevvind
yeah, play base game before, learn that winter is hardest season. Survive for 150+ days. 150 day = maximum threat from from any source(hounds/worms) and all other seasons will be pretty same. then start to die in RoG, learn that winter is easiest season to survive (if you are prepared) no more easymode with crockpots, bees in base. think about at least one more base for summer. SW is alpha, so probably some things is will be changed anyway Link to comment https://forums.kleientertainment.com/forums/topic/60095-dlc-choice/#findComment-693547 Share on other sites
Bor
I've started to play RoG a bit after a long break with the game (last time I played was somewhere around the launch of vanilla DS) and man it can be hectic at times. Worst part is, it's usually a chain of reaction. When something is going bad, suddenly everything starts to go bad xD still, I find that fun! The game definitely feels more "lively" compared to the early access times, when things were kinda boring at times. Really looking forward to the new DLC! Bearry
For newbies, play DS(though I only cleared the seasonal cycle once before jumping to RoG)For better players, play RoG(Actually, i find RoG easier as gears are easier to find+new stuff that are good for survival like melons and milk.)For players bored of surviving too long, play Shipwrecked DLC. A lot more freedom but a lot more difficult. Have fun dying. Haha. I won't say its for veterans but for players who got the hang of the original DS. I actually find RoG somewhat easier.
