Question about the next DLC / content additions.

Recommended Posts

Well since they figure out caves implementation and it is already in beta i think the worst is behind Klei. Now they need to fix bug there and there and add ruins which should be easy. Since not whole DST team is working on caves since graphic guys have nothing to do i bet they have lot of stuff for TTA already done. Now after caves they will probably push DST from beta and in no time add TTA.

SW is mainly done from Capy (so bigger Klei team can work on DST) but maybe they have little more work now since it is DLC

Anyway i like to know some info about TTA too at least if it is coming this year or next one, or at least if that late fall release changed.

Caves are still in beta and Shipwrecked DLC for single player will come out later this Fall, so Through the Ages will take time in my opinion.

I honestly dont understand why they dont ditch the single player.. they can do everything they do in the single player game into Together which is much more fun and to develop it faster so it will keep up with the single content and just focus on it.. I mean they're exactly the same games and in Together you can play with friends so..

They already have ditched singleplayer, really. Another dev team is working on singleplayer.

Singleplayer still has a very loyal playerbase that would cause a huge outrage if they completely abandoned it.

If they were the same game then I may understand what you are saying, however, there are many many differences at this point.  Singleplayer has way more features and content then DST.

Uh... what?

There is only the ruins biomes still missing.

Somehow I explored basucally all if the caves yet my friend said he found an Ancient pseudo station and the Anciend guardian somewhere. I'm starting to think he was lying, however he had made a bunch of Lazy Explorers, Deconstruction staffs, 2 Thulecite suits, 1 Thulecite club, 1 Thulecite crown, 1 or 2 Thulecite medalions, 2 or whatnot star caller's staffs and probably other stuff as well. He didn't have any thulecite nor thulecite fragments lying around anywhere. Idk where he got that though. The only ruins thing I ever found was one Slurper which I killed and got a pelt from it.

He said there was a ruins biome somewhere with the station and the guardian but I couldn't find it anywhere. Does anyone know anything about this? I explored technically everything and found nothing and the center wasn't actually dangerous at all!

Was he host? Cus I think he spawned the stuff. No ruins, especially not biome, would have that much thulecite anyway..

Woah there, you really think they should ditch singleplayer? That's like nintendo saying, "You know, mario's too old, let's just get rid of him." And only putting things in DST would significantly slow down progress, because single player and multiplayer are two totally different things to work on. It took nearly 6 months just to add caves in, can you imagine how much longer it would take to put in shipwrecked, which is a complete overhaul? Also the fun-ness of together, is variable, depending on who you play with.

Do you not know that MCadJO is the host and not Milord? Perhaps he did in some way spawn that stuff in... I'm very skeptical of him now...

Currently, caves are in beta (so they aren't there yet) but anyway let's pretend they are.

The Ruins and all the mobs/items down there aren't available.  That right there is huge, in my opinion.  Along with that, there is no adventure mode, teleportato, or Maxwell.  Also, various characters and items are balanced completely differently for single player use (which one can argue makes them completely different to play).

Implementing caves and server communication was the major hurdle. Adding ruins biomes and mobs in is trivial in comparison.

Rezecib has had a mod making maxwell playable exactly as he was in singleplayer for a year now.

Teleportato just let you regenerate the world. They're making portals that could let you transfer completely to other servers.

Adventure mode is a fun challenge, but poorly suited to multiplayer in any case.

There are some balance changes, but really that's just fixing design issues that were invisible in a single-player environment. At worst, it's simply different.

What I'm trying to point out is that DST isn't there yet.  It's lacking a decent amount of old content and makes changes to items/characters that alters the game.  Mods can reinstate characters/items but it's definitely different and I don't see the point of getting rid of single player anytime soon.  The differences that aren't important to you are to others.  That's all I'm trying to say.

Tomato, tomahto.

EDIT: By the way, I do like DST and would like to see some of the aspects (ewecus, meteors, dragonfly lair, etc) included in the DS/ROG version.  So, I'm definitely not suggesting it's a blight.

Getting rid of singleplayer isn't the argument though, that's nonsense.

It would be more like what they've been doing except for the shipwrecked expansion, which was to leave single player alone and focus their attentions on DST, which is a lot more reasonable.

You can always host and play singleplayer in DST, as they continue to add content to it.  It's not quite up to par (though ruins in my mind is the strongest argument for singleplayer, by far) but I think the dev team is pretty close.

As far as the mechanical differences, I like that multiple pieces of armor aren't as important as they once were.  Wearing a pig helmet and backpack is very convenient.  Deerclops definitely was too easy pre-rog, and learning to use the environment to defeat bosses is generally the best way to do it imo (everyone loves the reed field for this) but certainly isn't the only way.

Eventually, DST will have more content.  I remember when DST didn't have RoG content, when there was a huge difference.  It'll be similar when shipwrecked comes out, but eventually that'll be ported over too.

Maybe not right now but in a couple of months when DST will keep up with the single player there is no reason in the world to waste resources and time on the same game.
