Brostradamus
Hey guys, absolutely digging this game and the concept. I've been playing with a few friends these days and we've come to the conclusion that a lot of the current multiplayer mechanics can be confusing and honestly, unreasonable at times. Anywho;Currently looking for a mod or fix that shows your party's location no matter the distance. It's nearly impossible to coordinate when we can't see each other's locations if we step more than 15 feet from each other. Being that close kind of defeats the point of coordinated resource farming in the first place and the fact that we don't have a built in compass makes it even more difficult to scout enemy patches and plan group assaults or rescues considering we can't explain how to get to our locations while they just might be a few feet outside of our circle unknowingly... We could use a more accurate click/function option as well, as I cannot tell you how many times I've eaten raw food while trying to cook it. The eat and cook option constantly flickers when you're trying to cook on a fire and it's almost like playing the lotto at times. Picking up items whilst being chased by aggro'd enemies is also a hassle considering the way the game can barely distinguish a move click from a pick up click while under pressure.. We could certainly use a few more touch stone locations as well, considering I've spent more time walking around and searching for those than actually playing the game with friends. When we're in a server with 4 people, those are even more important yet sparse when we have multiple deaths at once, ect. Finally, if anyone as a link to a non steam version of the mod tool/compiler, please let me know as it seems my steam is extremely glitchy these days, though it might just be my PC not working well with python. Though, when I compile with the DS vanilla nonsteam/offline compiler, things work fine for the single player version (unfortunately not the other way around). The mod tools in the steam version do not work for me. I cannot find a dst version and it's killing me. I'm new here and would appreciate any feedback and links. Thanks to Klei for making such a great concept, good work!! Zillvr
Mods that might be what you are looking for:Extended Indicators WIP - All player indicators will always stay on screen.DST PickyPickyPicky - Pick up items without the slow animation. For more touchstones: When making the world preset for a server, to increase touchstones in that world you should set the PigHead Icon to Lots. That's the representation for touchstones if I'm not mistaken. You'll have to start up a new world again though, and click Edit World before clicking Create Server to alter the world preset. About the non-steam/offline compiler, sadly I do not have any information on hand about that. You can try and use the search feature of the forums to look other people who are/were looking for the same thing, maybe they already have. On the other hand, you can wait for people who has the know-how about that to reply to your thread/topic. Lastly, welcome to the forums @Brostradamus! rezecib
Currently looking for a mod or fix that shows your party's location no matter the distance. I have this mostly done. I started travelling right then, and I was talking to the author of Extended Indicators. But he hasn't been responding, so I think I'll publish my version soon. a built in compass There's a really nice-looking mod for this. Compass HUD, if I remember correctly. A little short on time at the moment, so I won't link it, but it's easy to find. The mod tools in the steam version do not work for me. I would bring that up on the mods and tools subforum. PeterA, in charge of mod support, is really great at reading what's going on there (and also elsewhere) and making sure that stuff is working for everyone. I find this appealing, actually. Personally, I'd suggest also only using whisper mode. It's a natural part of exploration. At first, you can't get too far away for fear of getting lost ... you can't see and can't here your mates. If you do find yourself lost, panic sets in and you scramble a bit to find your friends. That can be fun. Eventually, you establish a base camp and you can use it as a point of reference. "Help! NE of Camp". If folks rotate their maps from initial view it can get confusing ... and that is what the compass is for ... so work towards crafting one (that said, I'd prefer a N indicator on the map or mini-map). Some folks plant grass in the shape of an arrow to help with alignment. The point is, party of the beauty of the game is in figuring out how to overcome these types of challenges. Use your resources and your wits. Thanks so much, seriously, you've made my day of gaming that much more enjoyable. Looking forward to making some serious progress with my party. Here's to hoping these mods work without a hitch! I have this mostly done. I started travelling right then, and I was talking to the author of Extended Indicators. But he hasn't been responding, so I think I'll publish my version soon. Hopefully there's a dst version of the compass! Will definitely check that out, much appreciated!!! And definitely work on that mod bro, the more the merrier, and who knows, it might even be superior. Would be great if you included some configuration options for it in the mod menu! (Not sure what kind, but options are always welcome) Best wishes. I find this appealing, actually. Personally, I'd suggest also only using whisper mode. It's a natural part of exploration. Some folks plant grass in the shape of an arrow to help with alignment. The point is, party of the beauty of the game is in figuring out how to overcome these types of challenges. Use your resources and your wits. Hey man... I wasn't looking for personal opinions on the game, no offense. I'm aware of what the game is about as I've been playing survival games for quite some time.I don't have time to stop and type a despair message to a friend while being chased by a horde, let alone force a play style that requires us to be 2 feet from each other at all times to be able to whisper (extremely counter intuitive), so we're always on skype during our runs. There's such things as walky talkies in real life brother!I've devised a method of determining true north based on the land surrounding the initial spawn area a little while ago, so that hasn't become too much of an issue as much as it is bothersome to constantly have to rotate the map and proof check the direction. IMO the compass item is quite a ways into the game and it should definitely be a starter item, simply because of the fact that coordination is a huge part of this game in particular. I'm not stupid, I'm just tired of surviving for 10-15 days, without making much progress, to die by conditional randomness caused by the lack of certain mechanics that are commonly found in many games. The fact that we're restricted to one character also doesn't make things any easier with his nearly useless perks in comparison to what the meta game is about. (I've just found the mod that enables the vanilla characters though). As I said though, this game is wonderful, and I'm under the impression that the "beta" tag is a role call to the community to speak up. This is me doing my part I suppose. THANK YOU ALL, MUCH APPRECIATED!!!!!!! Passive
The fact that we're restricted to one character Not sure how you are restricted to one character :S Also there is a good mod out there called more RoG characters or something that like that which seems to work very well and lets you have all the characters available in RoG. I've also yet to find any info on how to unlock anyone, considering most of what I've read has been saying that it's not possible at this point. That's really strange, you should have like five or something unlocked by default. Let's see if I can remember all of them, we've got Wilson, Willow, Wolfgang, Wickerbottom, and Wx-78 all unlocked by default? am I forgetting anyone? EDIT: Forgot Wendy! So that makes six.Can you get a screenshot of you only being able to play Wilson? From the character select screen? Picking up items whilst being chased by aggro'd enemies is also a hassle considering the way the game can barely distinguish a move click from a pick up click while under pressure.. Everyone else already answered your other questions/comments, but I noticed aside from a mod suggestion, no one touched on these. Seeing the flickering, and accidentally eating instead of cooking, means your character is REALLY close to where your pointer is at on the fire. Back up a little, make the fire bigger, and now you'll have a larger area to cook with. I find it helpful to stand to the left or right of the fire, rather than face-front. It's harder to accidentally feed yourself when there's visible space between your character and your pointer. Instead of mouse-clicking, you can use WASD to move and spacebar to pickup. The indicator mod only works for the server host only, which defeats the purpose honestly. I couldn't download it if I wanted to and I'm using the standalone version. This is frustrating to say the least. This type of thing should be part of the game already, perhaps as a difficulty option. Looks like I'm going to have to re-buy the game on steam... rezecib
I'm using the standalone version. There is no standalone version of DST... ?? And the reason most mods are on the workshop and not on the forums is because for any mod that requires everyone to have it, the workshop handles automatic downloading. Personally, I don't even want to have to deal with all the people who would be commenting on the forums version saying it doesn't work. ... and because there's no standalone, at least not yet, there's no good reason to not just have it on the workshop. Brostradamus
Um great!, looks like my friend conned me out of cash to install a "torrented" version based on the fact that I've been having steam problems. Took this long for him to come clean. Extremely pissed. Buying a whole new pc tomorrow. Thanks for the enlightenment.... Pissed. What a waste of time. rezecib
@Brostradamus, Aww, man, that sucks. Sorry Knowing that, I think the reason the characters were locked is because it unlocks when you go to play online the first time. So you were probably stuck in offline mode. So sorry about that, I didn't know you were on standalone. If need be, I think you should try and ask the modders to upload those mods here in the forums first and explain your situation. No harm in trying, right? Good luck.
