Quick question...

I had been wondering the same, and did some experimentation to find out earlier...

"Added a new Wilderness game mode where player ghosts are disabled and players are spawned to random locations. Players are returned to the character select screen upon death.  http://forums.kleientertainment.com/topic/46169-hotfix-120483-120363-12122014/

Survival: When you die, you become a ghost. When there's no players left alive, the map resets after a short countdown.

Endless: The same as survival, but the map doesn't reset.

Not sure if there are any less-obvious differences.

Wilderness? Eh?

In Survival Mode, if there are no non-ghost players for a certain period of time, armageddon arrives, world gets destroyed and the server resets.

In Endless Mode, the server continues if all players are dead.

Wait...Does the survival reset only when all players die naturally? Or does it have some kind of apocalypse that forces you to die and then it resets itself?

Like when they showed off the game in PAX, with the endless meteorites and hounds,

Wait...Does the survival reset only when all players die naturally? Or does it have some kind of apocalypse that forces you to die and then it resets itself?

Survival is the most like single-player Don't Starve. If there's only one player connected, I'm guessing it's just like single player, and when you would have got a game over in that, the world would reset in Together. The difference is when you have more than one player online, and only one dies. That player becomes a ghost, which can be resurrected using an item that can be crafted (and perhaps other ways). But if all players become ghosts, the timer (30 seconds I think?) starts and then the world resets. There's no apocalypse that makes you die...

The part I don't know about though, is what happens if let's say there's three players... They are all fine, and one disconnects... The remaining two die... What happens? I'm guessing the world resets, but when the other player returns, will their inventory be intact, or will that have reset too?

It's a normal reset - a screen pops up saying everyone is dead, and the server will reset in 10, 9, 8, 7.... (it's actually 30 seconds).

The meteor apocalypse was just for PAX, and was built to smoothly cover the reset of the server IIRC.

Oops, I should have multi-quoted.

When the other player returns, they'll return to a brand new world. Inventory does not carry over.

Okay, a surprising amount of misinformation and fuzziness in this thread...

Endless: This is the mode that we were playing before the other two modes got added. You can resurrect with the portal by haunting it, which behaves like receiving a telltale heart (you lose max health). Otherwise, there's no way for the world to end, it just keeps going even if everyone's dead, and other people being dead has no direct effect on you.

Survival: You cannot resurrect with the portal. For each player ghost in the world, living players lose 3.3 sanity per minute, capped at 10 sanity per minute. The idea of this is to make it harder for the remaining players, possibly causing them to spiral into a state where everyone's dead, at which point the world restarts.

Wilderness: This is like Endless, but there is no common spawn point, no portal, and no ghosts. Instead, if you die, you get sent back to character select. People spawn in random points all over the world.
