Why are there Touchstones in Wilderness Mode?

Recommended Posts

I came across one before my friend joined my wilderness mode server and was not able to activate it.  Fair enough.  A couple of game days later we got attacked by spiders and hounds together, no that was not meant to be a joke, and I died after saving her from almost getting killed.

I was sent back to the character select screen as the hotfix notes stated, and spawned in the normal spawn area.  If this is the case, than why have touchstones still?  Actually the same could be asked about having the TellTale Heart, and Meat Effigy, craftable in this mode.

I just wanted to know if this was just something that was overlooked since you cannot use any of these items, or if they will be implemented the same way as they are in singleplayer (minus the TellTale Heart).

Also I did not know if this topic belonged here, or in the Bugs or Suggestions section.  So I apologize in advance for that.

Yeah, meat effigies take a serious nerf when the world could reset because me and my friends are dead. Not to mention, most players are not thinking about why it doesn't stop the world from resetting, since it auto-matically did it in single player.

My first thought is, free pigskins :) and maybe even a pretty decoration...? lol

I'm not sure what you mean by "normal spawn area" it should take you to different places. I tested it out and that's what happened for me at least. (My friend too)

Having the hearts craft-able still, I don't know. You could throw down a skeleton and toss a heart next to him for halloween! jk lol. But the meat effigy and stuff would help with the sanity regain. +15? For new things. I think?

*shrug*

Suppose the stones could be turned to off (set to none) in the "View World" tab.

I dunno what the deal here is because of your bad English (sorry, I am not trying to be rude), but tbh none of the resurrection items have a point of being in the game if people can be resurrected by the Jury-Ridged portal (or however it was spelled, idc).

Jury-Rigged or w.e only works for "endless" servers though. Survival it does nothing. And in wilderness it doesn't even exist ( or I have not run into it yet.)

What?? Everyone's English is here fine.

Also, the portal only resurrects you in Endless mode. This is about Wilderness mode.

oh geez!  I come back after a day of holiday shopping, and find an argument about ghosts and bad English.  I never intended for all of this to happen.

I do apologize for excluding the "no ghosts" point in my original post.  Luckily, @rezecib took care of that.   :encouragement:

@hellkitty  I let the pigskins idea fly over my head on that one.  Point taken, though I often get my pigskins from werepig hunting and pig heads in the swamp.  As for the normal spawn area that I mentioned, I meant that me and my friend found the jigsaw marked spawn point (I do not know if what to call it really, but its the one used in singleplayer), and that was where I respawned after I was sent to the character select screen.  Our initial spawn locations were far apart (as they should be), and unmarked.

The point I was trying to make was that touchstones are still found in Wilderness Mode of DST.  Additionally, Meat Effigies and TellTale Hearts are still available for crafting even though they cannot be used.  I just assumed that touchstones were left in to work the same way as they do in singleplayer.  We now know that they do not, and Meat Effigies will most likely not work either.

I figured it was something that needed to be pointed out, or taken into consideration by the devs.  I never really meant to make it sound like a big deal.   :fatigue:

I do think that Life Giving Amulets are still useful in Wilderness Mode.

I expect that touchstones and meat effigies will be made to work in Wilderness mode as they did in singleplayer. I hope that they add a server-side option to auto-ban dying players rather than respawn them, and that they do art for meat effigies of characters besides Wilson.

I haven't figured this out: how do you switch in options between an Endless server and a Survival one? I think I seem to get Endless all the time!
