Since I got access to the beta I've been working in porting my character mod to the game and while I could do that code wise I'm stuck in trying to adapt the character sprites to DST, especially when wanting to add their emotion faces and their ghost sprite. I know that I can adapt the textures of an already existing character, but I found that their texture templates are too small for my character to fit in properly.

I originally used the templates in this post ( http://forums.kleientertainment.com/topic/27341-tutorial-the-artists-guide-to-characteritem-modding/ ) for my character and they still work on DST but they lack the emotion faces, my question is if there's some way to adapt that template so it also has the new emotions added.

Thanks!

She'll suck. Terribly, so much space is necessary to make her look right.

Go with Dleowolf's extended model for now. I'll upload a guide to making the DST stuff. Not that hard, you just gotta make sure everything is in .scml correctly.

I'll ask Dleowolf if he wants his character in DST, and we can get a newer extended character model for DST. That is if they hasn't done so already.

I say Dleowolf because I don't want to steal their idea, just improve on it.

this is actually a really good statement/idea,

as modders should get more information on how to modify and add things (port) from our original mods to the don't starve together version of the game. Some spritesheets for one would be a good thing, we would have a general idea of all the "fresh art" we will have to mimic.

from what I've seen were going to need to add quite alot,

as one of those people who do not own a beta key i'm buying time to see how to add things or make things for dst. (without the ability to test them)

some questions might be, how will the new emotes be created in spriter and how will it effect the current atlas's/builds for existing

characters.

my current knowledge knows as you export from spriter (.SCML) into game it creates you're new build using the ds mod tools and automatically creates an atlas in the animation folder. I know we will have to change some things in our existing scml's

on the topic of how textures don't exactly fit, on my (wip) model, I have a very unique build, based off of this

so seeing dryicefox (thankyou) will be asking for the extended sample character created by dleowolf to be in dst would be an amazing relief, considering I'm doing all this re-modeling just for the new dst fans.

Thank you all for the answers!

I took a look at Dleowolf's mod and it will be great if they made a version for DST.

@Renamon I don't use spriter, I always generated the textures from a png with Klei's texture converter. I hope it's not a problem, though I really should need to start learning how to use it in case some day I want to add custom animations to my characters.

It's easy to edit textures using a Spriter project. You can actually edit .png files without opening Spriter, though I use it to preview builds.

I've recently updated my template mod to support DST sprites, though the mod itself doesn't work with DST right away.

Can't you also just use the layouts from the already released characters? That's what I've been doing so far. I've been working on one mod and I used Willow's texture sheet as a base, though you have to do some testing to figure out which faces go with which emotes, because sometimes there's two or three in succession for the animation.
But it worked fine for me!
