They should make it that you can only see your own shadow creatures. That way, you would get to see people punching thin air...You know...Like a crazy person... In the ruins, the shadow creatures can appear independent of a person's sanity, proving just how real they are. Not only that, but we have had several references to them in previous puzzles, such as the William Carter puzzles where they appeared independent of a person's sanity. The current idea is that the shadow creatures are beings from another dimension that are drawn to insanity. My personal interpretation is that the heart of the Don't Starve world is where they reside, and the farther away they are from it, the harder it is to exist. Negative thought and imagination makes them stronger, giving them the ability to exist far from the heart. Not only that, but the version we are seeing may not even be their true form. In the real world they appear as shadows, and in the DS world they appear as a not quite three-dimensional figure, but close. Perhaps in the heart of the DS world they can manifest as their full selves. I actually have a ton of theories about the DS world that I've been compiling for a while now. So far, everything that's been revealed has only affirmed them. If you watch the video, of him doing his "magic act" with the creature. Charlie, as well as the audience, can see them. If not he wouldn't of been much of a magician I suppose lol. I will say I do enjoy the idea of seeing a "crazy" person swatting at things, and your left going what the heck? lol But considering the background it makes sense why you do see them.
