Winston The Cat's Guide And Almanac To Dont Starve

Dont Starve Is a mysterious yet beautiful game. With tons of stuff to explore and do. So im gonna go into a insight for any new or old players. So im gonna sort my Guide into sections from surviving to food and planning ahead and facing the monsters that are at your door.

So ill begin enough talking. Lets DO THIS.

NOTE IM NOT DONE

Food

So food is very important to Dont Starve as well the name is Dont Starve. But food isnt all you have to worry about. Ok im getting off topic. If you are not familiar to the foods of dont starve there is a variety. Vegetables, Meats etc. So vegetables/fruits are replenishable besides the carrot but thats for later. So berries come in the form of berry bushes scattered around the map generated randomly depending on your world settings. That can be for later. So my suggestion to you is that collect all berries in sight and travel around for a bit looking for them. Dont harvest to many but harvest enough so you can survive and you can come back to revisit for another harvest. Now carrots they do not grow back and are scattered around the map. Most foods are cookable and theres just so much to get to. So my strategy for early games is well harvesting most of the berries letting them grow back. When you run low on food and the berries arent grown back yet like your in the middle of starvation go harvest some carrots and be preservative. So next is meat you can get meat from killing birds you get morsels etc you can get drumsticks and big chunks of meat from beefalo. So a tip it may not seem like a big difference but try to cook all your possible food. It helps but if you are in a death situation eat what ever you can to stay alive its better to live another day then to well be you know. So i didnt get to everything but i think its time to move on to another section.

Surviving

So dont starve is all about surviving and not starving. So what ever way you choose to live from being a nomad or a settler. Nomad being someone who travels and makes 1 night camps and well explores the map. Or settler who makes a base early game or does a combination of both. So not much to get into some stuff I could add but want to keep this short.

Modding

So before i go into anything i recommend not modding your game or installing mods early in game. Try not to use mods until you've really explored into the game. But the choice is yours. So with mods you can either just install it straight or go to the steam workshop if you bought the game VIA steam.

About the cook every single food thing.....

Do NOT always do this. Vegetables spoil faster when cooked.

bwut it replenishes more and increases its spoil health or whatever its called from when it was spoiled. Recommended cooking food when its about to spoil cause it increases the spoil health :3

Fun fact: Carrots replenish the same amount of hunger uncooked. The only difference is 2 extra health gained from eating it.

But yes, do cook things when they are about to spoil.

not fun fact : corn resplenish less when cook and the only recipe with that is the troll recipe

If you cook it right off the bat it will last 5 days longer, and the cooked version is acceptable in all recipes calling for the uncooked, like fish tacos and powdercake (not like you'd ever want to cook powedercake).

i was talking about less hunger, and yes, i forgot the tacos :/

edit: But it's a troll anyway, because fishsticks are better and require LESS ressources to make...

And the powdercake is awesome!!!

The better food of the world!
