to clarify:

catch bees with a bugnet, and break the bee hive entirely for honey comb, that will give you 2/3 items needed for a bee box to harvest honey.

Also, similar deal to butterflies; catch them with net, and release them to make a new flower.

(off topic) I want ice cream...

Basically...

1) You need a bug net. Since one of the ingredients for a Bee Box is 4 bees, you'll need to snatch at least 4 of them up.

2) So go hit a bee hive. A Beekeeper's Hat will help, but a Log Suit or Football Helmet will also work in a pinch. Bees really don't hurt all that much if you're wearing any sort of protection. Scoop up at least 4 bees with your net.

3) Once all the bees are netted (or killed), smack the Hive until it breaks. The hive will "drop" Honey and Honeycomb when "defeated".

4) Use the Honeycomb, Boards, and Bees to make a Beebox.

5) If you want your Bees to make honey, they need to travel to (unpicked) flowers, land on them, and bring the pollen back to the Bee Box.

6) That means you should catch some live Butterflies with your Bug Net. Now, if you left-click the Butterflies and "drop" them, they will create a Flower. Catch a few Butterflies and create some flowers next to your Bee Box(es).

7) Enjoy your honey!

great advice!!!

I'm not sure, but I think that the chance for fropping a Honeycomb is higher if you destroy the beehive with a hammer. The best time to get your honey is shortly before dawn, because the all bees left the beehive, so you don't have to fight them.

Okay, I can't work it out im trying to get bees to get bee boxes, whenever i attack the hive all i get is killer bees and these don't seem to work. There are no bees flying around any of the hives i have come across (3 so far) i tried planting flowers around them etc.

Most recent update changed the behavior of the beehives. They now spawn killer bees when attacked, so you have to catch the 4 bees before you attack the hive. But I understand the hive won't spawn regular bees once they are angered. Another player said that they were able to resolve this problem by punching the beehive to bring the killer bees out, then then killing every single killer bee, causing the hive to re-set and start spawning regular bees again. Then you catch those bees while they are searching for pollen, and once you have four, you attack the hive AGAIN, kill the new killer bees, and then break the hive open.

I've only done this a few times, but every time I've broken open a hive, I've gotten a honeycomb.
