phob
As the title suggests. Given summer's color scheme and echoed sound, if you aren't paying attention to every corner of the screen at all times you have a very good chance of losing half of your base or valuable farms to fire. It is game-breakingly frustrating to deal with, and whenever something in my base catches fire, I just Alt+F4 hoping the game didn't auto-save just now. I mean, it's very possible to go on a run, return to your base at dusk and find it in ashes because you didn't catch some twenty pixels at the very edge of the screen as you were leaving. Maybe a red/orange glowing circle around it? Or some distinguishable sound effect? Or just reduce the area where this can happen? I realize RoG is supposed to be a tougher experience for stronger players, but I think the described phenomenon ruins the gameplay rather than making it more rich. Keep the flammability, just make it more obvious. NeoDeusMachina
If you made this post, it is most probably because you didn't have time (or luck) to find gears and ice before summer started to build ice flingomatics in your base (I'm just guessing here)? If that is so, I guess it can be annoying to look for every possible smoldering item. However, it is part of the game. What I mean by that is that you had a full 20 days to prepare for summer and now you seem to be paying the price =\ It can definitely be frustrating, but the same could happen for winter if you didn't prepare well enough. Granted, your base would not burst into flame. However, you could die (which I think is even worst). The developpers already made an update to the smoldering effect to make it more obvious. I personally (and it is just a matter of opinion here) find this new effect perfect as it is. I never had trouble with smoldering items and my base never bursted into flames because of that (I always noticed it). The developpers do not hold our hands all the time to tell us all the terrible things that are about to kill us or wreck our base. We are warned by the current smoldering effect and we have a decent amount of time to react. Some tips that might help you: 1) Make some ice flingomatics (you can live with only 1, your base will just be small for the 1st summer if you want everything to be protected) 2) Spread things out a bit, i.e. make sure that if something catches fire, not everything else will 3) Protect similar building, e.g. don't build all your drying racks together, separate them to keep at least some of them if others catch fire 4) ice staff is your friend, it will help you extinguish smoldering items from a distance, giving you more time to react! You can find blue gems early by digging some graves Hope that helps! Have a nice day/night! =) Link to comment https://forums.kleientertainment.com/forums/topic/35907-make-smoldering-objects-more-obvious/#findComment-469991 Share on other sites

I don´t even use Ice flingomatics and I´m fine. As I said, all too often things catch fire at the edge of the screen as I'm leaving. This makes the flingomatic a must. While all other solutions to seasonal challanges have options. Building the flingomatic is not always possible even with good early exploration. 22winston
No. I also have my PC turned off and I'm sitting in the kitchen when I play Don't Starve.if your not playing with sound you shouldnt ask for them to make a sound effect etc. there is currently a crackling sound atm. If your volume is off your not gonna hear the sound. Talavaj
I had working Flingomatics yet my base was burned down when I got back, without me ever noticing there was anything smoldering at all I mean I LITTERALY had no idea, at which point I just deleted my world and disabled smoldering in world customization ever since. It is one of those dumb features in don't starve that have absolutely no depth, purpose or logical reasoning and exist only to screw you over and to add another needless layer of micro. TheKingofSquirrels
No. I also have my PC turned off and I'm sitting in the kitchen when I play Don't Starve. It´s important that you have your screen on when you play so you can see what you are doing. Smoke will start to rise from the objects that are overheating, so you can stop them from burning. Also, you should put your sound on, so you can hear the crackling sound effect.Hope this helps.I had working Flingomatics yet my base was burned down when I got back, without me ever noticing there was anything smoldering at all I mean I LITTERALY had no idea, at which point I just deleted my world and disabled smoldering in world customization ever since. It is one of those dumb features in don't starve that have absolutely no depth, purpose or logical reasoning and exist only to screw you over and to add another needless layer of micro. NeoDeusMachina
I like it. If you are referring to wildfire, then I like it too! =) There are lots of people in general who don't like changes. They prefer to stay with what they know because it makes them comfortable. Usually, new challenges and new dangers makes people uncomfortable, which can explain why there are a lots of complaints about the new summer overheating and wildfire mechanics, at least until they know how to properly deal with it.
