How do I install Rein OF Giants DLC on the stand alone game?

Recommended Posts

I've spent PLENTY of time trying to install this thing, but it won't work. I had already bought the game, so I just bought the DLC, and it just confused me and I got frustrated because I couldn't figure it out. What do I do with the data files? What do I do with the manifest file whatever it is? Please someone who knows or a developer please reply or whatever to tell me how to do this!

I think I have the same problem. As we speak, the updater is updating to version 21, so I don't know what's going to happen. All I have in the RoG folder that the files were installed in were: (sorry I didn't upload a picture, I can't for some reason)

  • Data (file folder)
  • manifest_dlc0001.json (JSON file)
  • uninstall_rog.exe (application)

No batch file like the base game, or anything inside the data folder to open the game. I will edit when the game finally opens, and tell you whether it worked or not.

EDIT: It didn't work. I still have just the base game. This is apparently a very major issue, as barely anybody can get the DLC to work on the standalone.

(sorry I didn't upload a picture, I can't for some reason)

upload to imgur, copy the bbcode, click the light switch button in the "reply to this topic" window thing, it's the first one at the top, paste it there, then click post. that works.

I'm using the standalone with dlc. There's no problem there, on your humble bundle page there're two installers, one for vanilla one for dlc. Just uninstall everything and donwload both installers again and run them. I repeat there's no problem with standalone dlc game.

I only have the one for the DLC. I got Don't Starve as a gift, and decided to buy the DLC myself. I will try reinstalling the DLC, but I don't see how that will help much.

EDIT: I will now try reinstalling the main game using my gifter's key. It may take a while for me to get back.

Is vanilla game from Humble Bundle store or Gog?

OK. I'm just going to say everything now.

Both the vanilla game and the DLC are from humble bundle store, but they're using two different keys. I am currently uninstalling the vanilla game. I will then uninstall the DLC. Then, I will reinstall the vanilla game. Then, I will reinstall the DLC. This is what I am supposed to do, correct?

Uninstalled, Reinstalled Don't Starve and RoG from HumbleBumble - RoG DOES NOT LAUNCH - I am behind a firewall so the update process doesn't work. Is that what this world has come to? If i can't "update" I'm Screwed?

And if i get another response on how to do it through steam i'm gonna slap someone!

Heya folks, it looks like some of you have been having issues when installing Reign of Giants to your Standalone. (Bought using Humble widget), you should be able to follow the steps to install your game properly in the link I've posted below:

And if you purchased the core game and the RoG expansion from Steam, here's how you can get access to your standalone game key and installers (and how to install them)

I don't think using a, "Free" version of Don't Starve is going to work with the Steam API. You'd have to buy it through steam. If it's not in your steam library already you should buy it properly through steam. If it just has not shown up after you've already purchased the game through steam, contact steam support!

I'm not a representative of KLEI, far from it - but... using a free version is frowned upon unless you cant afford it. Atleast to me. If you want to cheat, you can just go to your steam library... go to the bottom... and hit the "+ADD A GAME" button and then add your "Free" Don't Starve launcher to your library from there... like a strange... pretender...

yaaaayyyy...  :juggling:

Making games is hard work. It costs a couple days lunch to get a game that can keep you entertained for months/years. Please support KLEI.

Please remember that many users posting do not have English as their first language. What we understand as "free" may mean "standalone"or "not using Steam to always  play the game."

For instance, I have Standalone and Steam. And I can vouch, after buying the game and RoG  from the Widget (which means Humble Bundle,) I was able to update it to both Standalone and Steam.

look at JanH's link again, and notice not only can you download the Standalone files, a link to give you a Steam key is already provided.

The catch is to use the key as verification when you run the installation, and yes, you MUST allow permission to update the game. On Steam, you simply instal the game by adding a Steam key. It may ask for it again the first time running the DS game.

However, if a user is using a free trial or (even) a pirated version, the update will not work. You must buy a full and valid copy of the game to allow the add-on.
