PLEASE fix Abigail.

Recommended Posts

Seriously, this is ruining my experience as Wendy quite a bit. Abigail should not automatically attack any creature that is flagged "aggressive" towards the player. This make harvest bee boxes, kiting Beefalo to kill them, kiting spiders away from the nest before killing, etc. very difficult because she always runs in and attacks and gets herself killed. She should only attack creatures that the player has attacked, or have actually attacked the player.  Not creatures that just look at the player in a manner that Abigail doesn't approve of, it really kills the experience with her.

Don't forget how easy it is to lose Abigail just from transiting through a swamp if she gets "caught" on a tentacle.  I understand that's she's protective of her sister, but she either should have reduced aggro or should be able to be left in an area.

It would be nice to get a bit of fine-tuning on Abigail so it's a little easier to manage her.  I have to avoid even walking through some areas because I'll lose her.  :(

I slightly agree with you that it can sometimes be annoying but you can use your time to learn how to effectively use her.

It's not a matter of control, since there is no control of Abigail once she's summoned.  If I want to use Abigail to help me with some beehives (something she's great at), and later to help with a hound wave, I need to basically not walk through swamps or other areas where she might aggro for days (until the hound wave is done).  This is because if she despawns, I can't use her again for several days.  I don't mind having a cooldown, but it basically means that I have to intentionally get Abigail killed on a schedule if I want to be able to use her after doing business in a dangerous place.

Another example: I have a neutral Treeguard walking around in my camp.  Abigail will go aggro it without any provocation, making it mad and killing herself off (or forcing me to kill it).

Additionally, with the angry spring bees mechanic, it can make even hanging around my base difficult because she will kill off all of my bees from a bee box.

A small change - aggro control, "placing" Abigail somewhere quiet, or actively desummoning her (with less of a wait to respawn - minus 1 day, perhaps) - would be reasonable and allow us to actually "control" the ability.

I really like the idea of Wendy, and there should be a small element of chaos - "Come back, Abigail!" (I'm actually yelled this several times) "No, don't fight the tree!" - but there aren't any other unique character abilities that basically keep you out of whole biomes for periods of time (to my knowledge).

I agree with you i was tired earlier XD

I rocked out as Wendy before strange new powers. I loved having Abby there to help and it seemed fine that she was gone during the day, I fought at dusk or night with a miner hat. Then after strange new powers, I couldn't figure out how to summon her, and once I did, it was barely useful. Walking in a forest. Abby aggros spiders. Walking through swamp, merms, plains:beffalo, there is almost an insta-aggro enemy for her everywhere.

Additionally, it is a pain to summon her, and now I worry about her dying. before it didn't matter, she came back every dusk. So I stopped playing her and got obsessed with my robot.

The Strange New Powers Update made Wendy an independent woman. :)

Whilst I don't think she needs heavy work, I think placing exception flags on a few things like Tentacles would be good so she doesn't just die if you want to go in a swamp. I can imagine beeboxes being pretty annoying with her around too. But in general cases I think her being protective and chasing whatever aggros you is character-fitting and not that bad; getting in over her head and dying keeps you from just being able to keep her around nearly 24/7.

A shorter respawn if you decide to despawn her would also be good. (You already can do that by just force-attacking her yourself; she instantly disappears. Actually I'm not sure if this -already- gives a fast respawn or not)

...in other news, her wail could stand to happen a little less often. They really lowered the volume on it now that she stays around a long time, and that's great, it's not a big deal anymore; but when there's no music for a good while, it does get a little bit... mph.

Ah, I didn't get to play pre-Strange New Powers update.  That's the other part - because she's weaker during the day, it's more likely Abigail will run across something that kills her before she kills it since I will tend to be running around more (and transiting swamps if I'm just trying to get through quickly) during the day.

If she could just get an exception for tentacles, that would make me a happy camper, honestly.

What if Abigail was tied to her flower the same way Chester's tied to the eyebone? That way you could harvest bee boxes with(out*) a massacre (etc). Still wouldn't exactly solve trying to bring her through a swamp, but at least players could make her stay somewhere without dying in hard-to-retrieve places.

That means Wendy would need a "duplicate" summoning flower in the inventory though, and the devs might have meant for Abigail's flower to be hard-to-retrieve if you don't navigate her well regardless of the aggro'd mobs.

That's.. Kinda off. Abigail is supposed to wear the flower, since it symbolises their blood connection. It would be kinda rude to change the flower into a dog leash.

Welp, I didn't mean to imply Abigail should be chained like a dog to the flower, but I always saw Abigail as linked to the flower since the twins both don the same kind of flower. It does make sense in this context for Abigail to have her own flower anyways, rather than a third separate one as a "leash". x:

Something like this would be good. I could see some inventory and other issues with having it be tied to her flower, but yes, some sort of "stay here, Abigail!" option would help.

Abigail's not intended to be a pig replacement. Bring her out only when you ABSOLUTELY need to(I.E, a non-treeguard boss is coming to flatten your young nubile corpse). Will she die? Probably. She's all about the death anyways.

If you really need Abigail, it can be hard to summon her... since you're being mobbed and often can't take the time to kill something (exacerbated by Wendy's weaker hits).  So I don't see Abigail as something to only bring out in crisis situations; she's something you should plan to set up.

Plus, with the cooldown, bringing her out for something could leave you vulnerable to hound attacks.  Abigail isn't strong enough to take on a boss, btw.  She's great at spider dens at dusk and night, and can tank a treeguard if I also whack it.  But a Spider Queen or Deerclops? Nope.
